The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers and updates tease that the luckiest man in Genoa City, Wisconsin has to be Ashland Locke (Robert Newman). As fans have seen, Victoria Newman Locke (Amelia Heinle) is still in love with this guy even though he looks nothing like the man she married, with a bow to all Guiding Light fans intended, and has told her a series of incredible lies.
Yes, the recast to Newman can be tagged as a major hit. This longtime soap opera veteran, who played Josh Lewis on Guiding Light from 1980 to 2009, fit seamlessly into Y&R.
Newman’s chops and extensive resume allowed him to take over for Richard Burgi (Ashland), who first embodied this character.

Teasers continue to indicate that Ashland is lying about his cancer diagnosis. If projections play out, then Ashland could reveal the lie and the reasons for it himself.
Victoria has experienced this pattern to date. Ashland feels compelled to tell one of his backstory tales to avoid having another character expose the truth.
The teasers and implied reveal feel like Ashland is sticking to the plan he discussed to an unspecified connection on the phone while sitting at the Society bar. It could be that he wanted a foothold at Newman Enterprises and was going to use Victoria to do it before later falling in love.

Victoria was taken with Ashland when he arrived in GC with his then-wife, Tara Locke (Elizabeth Leiner). Ashland soon began slightly pursuing Victoria but was rebuked because he was married.
An interesting link between the Locke characters is that both involve recasts, with Rebekah Graf originally cast to play Tara. But Graf never appeared, with Leiner being the only on-screen Tara. She was Kyle Abbott’s (Michael Mealor) former love interest and revealed the mother of his son, Harrison Locke (Kellen Enriquez).
There appears to be no doubt at this point that Ashland truly cares for Victoria and claims that she saved his life. It is unclear what Ashland means by that statement, with his agenda not being fully known to date.
The Young And The Restless Updates – Beating Terminal Illness Or Remaining Married?
A reveal of Ashland as having lied about cancer would be both shocking and unseemly. That type of outcome would put a hard, negative stamp on the alter ego Newman is playing.
It might be harder to restore trust with Victoria if she and the audience learn that Ashland lied to them about having cancer.
Y&R fans would stand with Victoria. She would serve as their representative and mouthpiece. There is a zero percent chance that Victoria would say nothing or instantly forgive him. But this is Genoa City, so maybe the marriage would survive.
