Hilary Duff Eats Brussel Sprouts While Breastfeeding

Is it safe to eat Brussel sprouts while breastfeeding? That’s what a lot of fans can’t help but wonder as celebrity mom Hilary Duff recently posted a photo of herself eating her veggies while breastfeeding her daughter, Banks.

The actress and singer shared a photo on her Instagram account of her eating her greens while simultaneously feeding her daughter during her family trip to Mexico this week. And as many people can imagine, her social media followers had something to say about it, as some people believe that eating Brussel sprouts might not be the best idea, especially if you are a nursing mom. This comes right after the celebrity mother-of-two asked her fans for advice on how to deal with Banks’ colic and constant crying throughout the night.

Some fans wrote in Hilary’s comments section, “Brussel sprouts will produce lots of gas through breastmilk,” while another person wrote, “Two kids with reflux and milk protein allergy. Get that baby on meds. Total life saver!”

According to health professionals though, it is perfectly safe for a breastfeeding mother to eat her beans and other gas-inducing foods like Brussel sprouts, cabbage or even broccoli. Even though a lot of people believe that these foods can cause gassiness when you breastfeed a baby, the general consensus among pediatricians is that it’s not always the case. Of course, if you have any additional questions about breastfeeding and your diet, you should always consult your doctor or a trusted health professional.
