Classic soap and standard Newman sibling rivalry would have Adam and Nick uncertain about a paternity matter. Hardcore viewers recall that the late Sage Newman (Kelly Sullivan) gave birth to Christian Newman (Alex Wilson), with Nick eventually learning that Adam was his father.

Nick was with Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) in the recent past. Sally was with Adam.
Morrow and Hope’s characters dropped their so-called significant others. Phyllis and Adam had no say in those relationships ending.
TPTB were setting up the pairing of Nick and Sally, with the ending of Nick and Phyllis’ pairing seeming a bit thin. Viewers suspended disbelief while also knowing that this couple’s history is chaotic.
The Young And The Restless Updates – Adam Newman Has A New Love
Adam convinced himself that Sally was the new love of his life. That was a stretch, as it felt like she was his new obsession.
Grossman’s character was coming off a break from Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan), which was the correct choice at that time in the plot. He drove her to a mental break through the kidnapping and his ill-advised inclusion of Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) as Chelsea’s pressure therapist.
The writing staff has since adjusted Sharon’s attitude, as she has become a true friend to Chelsea. As for Adam, he is somewhat more restrained but still incredibly self-involved. That is one of the reasons why Sally left him for Nick.
Nick Newman Is The Preferred Father
Assuming Sally will become a mother at some point, Nick is her choice to be the father. The trend of this couple toward permanency is strong, with Nick projecting similar feelings for Sally as he has with his past loves.
Sage was Nick’s last wife. She died in 2016 in real-time, though Christian’s SORAS’d (soap opera rapid aging syndrome) appearance indicates it was approximately a decade ago that Sage died.
Sally embodies some of the traits of Nick’s past loves, just as he is similar to her other male connections. But each person represents a fresh start on Y&R as well.
