Whitney Purvis Misses Son’s Funeral After Mix-Up, Ex Responds
Whitney Purvis, from MTV’s 16 and Pregnant, shared her heartbreak after being denied entry to her 16-year-old son Weston Jr.’s funeral. There’d been a terrible mix-up, it seems. Read on for more details.
Claims Denied Entry
The MTV alum said that her ex, Weston Gosa Sr., told her the service started at 4 p.m., but it turned out the funeral home event began two hours earlier. By the time she arrived, she said that the doors were locked, leaving her and her family unable to attend.

Whitney wrote on Facebook that she didn’t know the event started at 2 p.m. and accused her ex of deliberately giving her the wrong time. She said no matter when she got there, she wasn’t allowed in, because her name and her family’s names were not on the guest list.

It was a very long rant, during which she said that she won’t be silent about her ex, who she feels was deliberately nasty to her. She wrote, “No matter what time I showed up… I wasn’t allowed in… I was denied!” and “I begged him to let me in…”
Weston Responded
There’s not enough room in the article to share everything that Whitney said. However, Weston Gosa Sr. spoke with TMZ. He said that he called Whitney personally one week before the funeral and told her the schedule: “a viewing from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by the service at exactly 4 p.m.” He added that he “warned anyone arriving late that the chapel doors would be locked.”
Weston said Whitney got to the chapel around 4:15 p.m., when the service had already started and the funeral home was closing. He also said he “texted her a photo of the guest list,” proving her name was included. Additionally, he noted that Whitney’s mother, aunt, and uncle arrived around 3 p.m., and they were allowed in.
Used For Paperwork?
Whitney also claimed in her Facebook post that she signed off on the “cremation paperwork,” only to be hurt again later. She said Weston promised her an urn and some of their son’s ashes, but never delivered. She called his behavior “controlling and heartless,” adding that the entire situation inflicted additional trauma during an already painful time.
Beyond the funeral drama, the story illustrates years of tension between the two. Whitney historically accused Weston of denying her access to their children and not providing adequate medical insurance, despite their custody agreement.
On the other hand, Weston and his wife have maintained that everything was handled properly and that any delays or missed visits were on Whitney Purvis.
Fans side with Whitney
In the comments section of the post, Teen Mom and 16 and Pregnant fans seemed to be solidly with Whitney Purvis. One of them wrote, “As soon as I read ‘They gave you an urn to be compassionate,’ I was hateful. Acting like it’s a privilege for you to have your own child’s ashes, when you are his mother. Insane.”
Another fan said, “I am with you. As soon as I saw the TMZ story, I knew he was a liar. The last thing he should be doing is telling and selling a story. Even if you were late, you should have full, complete access to the funeral.”
