Devon Hamilton-Winters (Bryton James) was only being a protective brother, not wanting to overwhelm his sister as she was helping Mattie Ashby (Lexie Stevenson) get back on her feet after the wildfire crisis she suffered while at university.
Still, Lily would likely have wanted to be overwhelmed and told the truth, then to look like a fool and be cheated on.
