  • Meet Marie the Elephant! Ava got to take care of her for a whole day while nestled in the jungle 2 hours outside of Chiang Mai. . Unlike the vast majority of elephant sanctuaries, we had Marie and one other elephant to ourselves for the day. The whole process of our introduction was relaxed and the elephants seemed at ease with just a few people to care for them. . The Karen tribe who live with these beautiful elephants taught us how to keep an animal of this size healthy each day. It's imprtant that the elephants only eat food the tribe grows from the jungle. We gathered leaves and fed bananas before making special elephant medicine balls. We also exercised the elephants by walking them to a nearby stream where they enjoyed bathing and playing. . It was a truly magical day and Ava told me it ranked in the top 2 things we have done on all of our travels (the other being Disney).
