Product recall isn’t unusual, and thankfully the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the USA stays on top of things. Often related to food, other warnings sometimes arise for utility items like baby seats or strollers. But this week’s focus is on eggs that could potentially make anyone who eats them very ill, indeed.

The Recall Details

The Sun US reported this week that an egg producer in Santa Fe, Texas shipped off a batch of eggs that could have Salmonella in them. They noted that the brand is known as Kenz Henz eggs.

Notably, the recall related to a specific batch, and all the details were revealed so you know what to look for. They included:

  • 12-count cartons of Grade AA Large Pasture Raised Eggs.
  • The affected cartons have UPC 86949400030 and best-by dates of October 11–14 and October 16–17.
  • The eggs were sold at Kroger and other stores in the Houston area, as well as on the company’s Facebook page.

Notably, don’t try to eat them, and rather take them back to where you obtained them for a refund.

Heat Kills Salmonella?

While cooking eggs can kill Salmonella, cooking time and heat levels are important. So, it’s best to discard them. Remember, Salmonella can be on the shells and inside the egg, and you can’t smell, taste, or even see the bacteria.

When considering the product recall, it’s also important to note that homemade mayonnaise and mayo served at restaurants may be made with raw, unpasteurized eggs, which poses a higher risk. And if you or your family fall ill, please seek medical advice fast.

What Are The Symptoms?

According to The Mayo Clinic and other health websites, salmonella is a bacteria that affects your stomach. You can start feeling sick anywhere from six hours to 6six days after exposure, but it most often hits within 12 to 96 hours.

The main symptoms include diarrhea, stomach cramps, fever, and nausea. You might also experience vomiting, chills, and headaches.

The diarrhea is often sudden and watery, and while it usually lasts up to a week, it can sometimes take months for your digestion to feel completely normal again. Importantly, the illness might cause dehydration. And, that’s a particular danger for kids, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

Other Recalls

Other product recalls this year involved cannabis being found in Haribo candy. Although that happened in the Netherlands, others were closer to home.

Walmart recently experienced several recalls for radioactive shrimp. Another product that was of concern arrived at the end of September for the Tru Fru Dried Strawberries In Dark & White Chocolate and the Tru Fru Freeze Dried Strawberries & Crème.
