Kids’ health news in 2014 raised hopes that the cause of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) might have been found. The preliminary findings suggested that pregnant mothers using painkillers like paracetamol could be a factor, but this requires further study.

What Is ADHD?

According to Nemours Kids’ Health, children exhibit a lot of symptoms that might need checking out. Often, kids struggle with paying attention, lack the ability to sit still, and often seem unable to control their actions. Of course, that can happen with any small child, but once they go to school, it can be disruptive for their classmates.

What does not cause it? Many people might think that poor parenting, a lack of discipline, or downright spoiling a kid can cause ADHD. Well, that is totally incorrect, and it is “not caused by too much screen time…or eating too much sugar,” either.

Although there are no hard and fast answers to the cause, some suspicion focuses on toxins in the environment and a pregnant mother taking drugs. A toxic environment isn’t good for little kids, and it’s not a great idea to take drugs during pregnancy. Of course, if you are pregnant, you should consult with a medical professional before taking any drugs to safeguard kids’ health.

Treatable After Diagnosis

These days, children can be helped with medication, coaching, and support at school. Many teachers are experienced with the condition, so it’s worth speaking to your school about it before enrolling your child.

You can help your child to eat healthy meals, sleep well, and get plenty of exercise. But it’s also important that you get support. A recommended support site is named CHADD. Plenty of resources exist, and other parents can also help guide you through your experience. Additionally, it’s useful for your teen to check out as well.

Share Your Experiences

Going through the difficulties of raising a child with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder isn’t easy. However, anyone can reach out and help others with suggestions and personal experience via social media. That’s why so many General Hospital fans appreciated it when Maurice Benard chatted with Asher Antonyzyn about his life with the condition.

Asher shared how he sometimes comes off his medication on weekends, but he finds it very useful when he’s interacting with other people.

Notably, it’s never a good idea to suggest that you can cure any childhood condition.  Please read our disclaimer below:
