The Young and the Restless’ Linden Ashby Talks Cameron Hallucination Run + His Budding Bromance With Joshua Morrow
Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers imply that Linden Ashby first arrived on the soap in 2003, playing the charming and handsome yet manipulative Cameron Kirsten, only to exit in 2004.
He burst back onto the scene in 2023 to further torture Sharon Newman (Sharon Case), until she finally put an end to him by stabbing him in his chest, mere months later.
Y&R fans have loved to hate Cameron; however, his recent comeback, playing a hallucination of Cameron – a figment of Sharon’s imagination – softened audiences to the villainous character.
As Sharon bid adieu to her Cameron hallucination during the Monday, January 27 episode, it looks like Linden Ashby has once again wrapped up his time on the Y&R. The actor caught up with Soap Opera Digest (SOD) to chat about his latest run on the daytime drama.
Y&R’s Linden Ashby’s Thoughts On Cameron Kirsten – “The Hallucination”
Ashby was asked about what he thought of the Cameron hallucination concept, and he noted that he loved the idea, especially since it wasn’t Cameron returning as a ghost, rather, it was Sharon who brought the character back to life. He also stated that he loved the complex relationship between Sharon and her hallucination, which really came down to Sharon simply “talking to herself”.
SOD also asked if Ashby was surprised that the Cameron hallucination stuck around as long as he did, to which, the actor replied, “I didn’t know that it [would end up being such a long visit].”
He added, “There was a point where I thought I was done and I said to Josh [Griffith, executive producer/head writer], “Hey, I’m gonna shave and cut my hair,” and he was like, “No, no, no, don’t do that yet.”
He goes on to say, “And I was like, “Okay, how long? How long do you need me for?” And he told me and I was like, “Oh! Okay, good. Well, let’s do it well and let’s have fun with it.” And I think we did.”
Y&R’s Linden Ashby Comments On His Bromance With Joshua Morrow
Ashby stated how he approached playing the Cameron hallucination and how it was very different from playing Cameron Kirsten, the person. After all, the hallucination was a filtered version of Cameron, that Sharon came up with. Ashby noted that Cameron was
Sharon’s idea of Cameron, something he and Sharon Case talked a lot about.
In fact, Case wondered why the show couldn’t simply keep the hallucination around so that she and Ashby could work together. Alas, all good things must come to an end.
Still, another question that was asked was if there was ever a temptation for Ashby to break anyone who was in a scene with Cameron and Sharon, as they had to pretend, he wasn’t there.
Ashby notes that it was hard for Josh Morrow to keep a straight face while working with him. This is when SOD reminded him that they had asked Morrow at one point if he was jealous that Sharon Case got the bulk of scenes with Ashby, in which, Morrow answered, “Yes”.
When Linden heard Morrow’s response, he (jokingly) confirmed that he and Morrow did, indeed, have a bromance going on. Who knew?
Still, now that Cameron is once again, ‘gone’ would Linden ever return, possibly to play “ghost Cameron” next time? Ashby notes, “Oh, you never say never, do you? If it was the right part and it made sense and it was going to be fun and my schedule said, ‘Yeah, this is a good thing to do,’ sure! I had a great time.”
