Back-to-School ABC Handwriting Cookies
 
Can you believe it is August already? In just a month, the kids will be going back to school!
 
Children never like to see their summer fun end, so getting them excited for the upcoming school year is a must. These Back-to School ABC Handwriting Cookies are the perfect snack to spark a positive new school attitude. Their tasty and are fun to send to school on their first day of the school. Children can even share the cookies with their new teacher and friends. 
 
INGREDIENTS
2 3/4 cups of all-purpose flour
1 t of baking soda
1/2 t of baking powder
1 cup butter (2 sticks), softened
1 3/4 cups sugar
1 egg
1 t vanilla
1/2 cup Wilton green chocolate melts
Wilton white icing writerDIRECTIONS
1.   Preheat oven to 375° degrees.
2.   In a small mixing bowl, add flour, baking soda and baking powder.
 
3.   In a medium mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
 
4.   Add egg and vanilla to sugared butter and mix for about 45 seconds.
 
5.   Slowly add the dry ingredients and mix until well-incorporated.
 
6.   Using a cookie scoop, form uniform balls out of the dough and place on parchment-lined cookie sheets.
 
7.   Bake 10-12 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool for at least 2 hours on a wire rack.
 
8.   Melt 1/2 cup of the green Wilton candy melts in the microwave for 40 seconds. Stir until completely melted. Do not overheat or the melts will get too hard.
 
9.   Spread the melted candy on each sugar cookie and let cool for at least 1 hour.
 
10. Using a tube of Wilton icing writer, alternate by drawing a straight, solid line across the cookie and a dotted line…resembling old-fashioned handwriting paper. Repeat down the entire cookie. Let set for 30 minutes.
 
11.  Using the icing writer, draw cursive letters on each cookie. Let
set for 30 minutes.

    I think this would be a very tasty way to teach the kids their ABCs. LOL You don’t let them have a cookie until they can tell you what letter you show them.
