There is nothing harder for a parent when their child is exhibiting signs that something is wrong. This is especially hard for first-time parents because a lot of times the just littlest sign of discomfort in their child can be worrisome. Parents don’t always know what certain symptoms mean either. That’s why the American Academy of Pediatrics has created a new book, The Big Book of Symptoms: A-Z Guide to Your Child’s Health to help parents recognize certain symptoms and health concerns in their children.

The Big Book of Symptoms: A-Z Guide to Your Child’s Heath is a directory of more than 1000 of the most common childhood symptoms from infancy to adolescent. With this new book parents can evaluate their child’s symptoms and distinguish minor everyday concerns from more serious conditions.

“There might be a time when parents will face difficult situations,” says Dr. Shelov (Editor). “While pediatricians are the best resource for your child’s health care, it’s nice to have something to quickly turn to for research on symptoms and medical information.”

I really enjoyed that this informative book can be a companion book throughout your child’s growth. The Big Book of Symptoms topics from infancy to the teenage years.

Some topics covered include:

  • How to handle colicky newborns
  • Understanding Fevers and when to give medication
  • Easing your toddler into a normal sleeping routine
  • Insect bites
  • Behavioural & Learning problems
  • How to treat teenage acne

Parents can also be confident that information is coming from a reputable source. The book is edited by two leading pediatricians, Dr. Shelov and Dr Flais who have years of experience of treating children. Also, the medical information put forth is the most up-to-date material in the medical field.

The Big Book of Symptoms is a great addition to an expecting parents registry list. I remember how every small worrying symptom my daughter exhibited in those first few months made me want to go into panic mode. The information provided for new parents in this book would have definitely helped build my confidence in understanding my daughter’s health.

The Big Book of Symptoms is currently available for purchase through Amazon and local bookstores.

What a great book!! I get nervous when my little boy tells me he has a tummy ache, just because he is such a picky eater, I worry he hasn’t eaten enough at preschool.
