Amber Portwood Loses Custody of Daughter
Amber Portwood, the infamous Teen Mom star known for beating the father of her child, lost primary custody of her 2-year-old girl today. Gary Shirley, the father of the little girl and Amber’s ex-fiance, has been awarded custody. A judge reached the decision that Shirley was a more suitable parent for the couple’s daughter Leah.
After reported vandalism to Amber’s car and house, Child Protective Services was nervous about her living conditions. This was the main reason Amber lost custody of Leah. She will gain visitation rights. The court issued was an emergency child placement hearing that took place today Anderson, Indiana.
“Child Protective Services agreed it was safer for her to stay at Gary’s because of all the photographers outside my house,” Amber, 20, says about why she lost custody. It seems like this was a mutual decision between both Amber and Gary. Amber is currently taking meds for anxiety and depression, and admits that being away from Leah “is the lowest of the low. Every night she’s been saying, ‘Where’s Mommy?'”
About moving forward, Portwood says, “I feel like everything is spinning out of control, and I’m trying to put the pieces back together. I have to get myself better so when I get my baby back, she sees her mom as happy as can be.”
