The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) can’t get past his obsession with Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman). He’s the so-called Great Man’s foil in this tale.
It doesn’t make sense that someone who has the world by the soapy tail would be bothered that his wife is fond of an ex-husband.
However, there are likely many viewers who have seen similar misguided souls on this side of the screen who project similar insecurities.
Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) is the number one love of Victor’s life.
Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), who just returned to town after her brother was nearly stabbed to death, ranks second by an arguably wide margin. The late Hope Wilson (Signy Coleman) also deserves a place in this list.
There are other women whom Victor loved, like the late Sabrina Costelana Newman (Raya Medine). He was very fond of her, but like Hope, she’s departed and isn’t a threat to Nikki.
Ramona Caceres (Gladys Jiminez) had a memorable but brief role. She captured a part of Victor’s heart, but she doesn’t come anywhere near the space that Nikki does.
Julia Newman (Meg Bennett) must be mentioned because she was Victor’s first wife and the one he brought with him to Genoa City, Wisconsin, upon his arrival in 1980, in real-time.
With Jack being his rival, Diane Jenkins Abbott (Susan Walters) must be noted as well. They were twice married, but Victor loathes her, which contrasts sharply with how Jack and Nikki get along.
Victor mostly counts business success as the measure of a man or woman. That’s a great insight into the deficiency of his character.
In daytime reality, Victor is jealous not only of Jack’s continued connection with Nikki. He claims to have respected Jack’s father, John Abbott (Jerry Douglas). But the truth is different.
John represented the father Victor never had, with his often-referenced orphan story being an emotional crutch.
Jack has the love and support of the Abbott family, with Victor’s concern for his clan being conditional based upon all of them always following his orders.
The implied reference in the section header doesn’t mean Nikki reverting to the bottle. Instead, it means whether she will divorce Victor.
Nikki didn’t leave her husband after learning that he recruited Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk). Instead, he kicked his wife out after deciding that she was disloyal because of the Jack factor.
The blindness storyline could lead to a reconciliation, due to her eventual reclaiming of full vision.
But there is space in this well-paced plot for what would be a fourth divorce between this soap’s greatest pair of on-again, off-again love birds.
