General Hospital spoilers and updates indicate that Nathan West (Ryan Paevey) has returned and set to make significant moves to regain what he believes he has lost over the past seven years.
One of his potential actions could be to reclaim his son, James West (Gary James Fuller), as he is the only parent present.
Nathan might attempt to take his son, James, from Damian Spinelli (Bradford Anderson), and there will be potential outcomes from that; currently, Nathan is back and looking to rebuild his life.
He visited Anna Devane (Finola Hughes), congratulated her on her new role as police commissioner, and requested his job back as a PCPD detective. Nathan expressed that he needs to provide for his son, James; it’s clear what Nathan is thinking.
If you believe he can’t recall his life since his father, Cesar Faison (Anders Hove), shot him, then it seems quite innocent. It makes sense that Nathan would want to connect with his son, James; Nathan was shot before James was born seven years ago, and they have only just met.
Recently, Nathan informed Spinelli that he would allow him to take charge with James to provide the little boy with stability in his life.
This is good, especially since Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) is still in a coma; however, it might not be long before Nathan decides it’s time for James to move in with him. Nathan is the only biological parent that James has present.
Naturally, Spinelli has been a great father figure for James, particularly over the last few years while he has been with Maxie constantly.
That is all true, but the child also appeared very eager to finally meet his dad, Nathan, someone he has only known through photos and stories until now.
Spinelli might not approve, but he may not be able to prevent Nathan from being with his biological son; he might need to seek legal representation.
Felicia Scorpio (Kristina Wagner) may not want him to have James either, but since Nathan seems to be the only aware parent James has, it’s almost unavoidable.
Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins Bruening), Spinelli, and Felicia could argue that James should stay with his siblings, Georgie Spinelli (Lily Fisher) and Bailey Jones (Miley and Riley Plonski.
But Nathan might still have the advantage; no one knows where Nathan has been for the past seven years, so their doubts about him are valid.
However, they are taking him at face value, while I believe the viewers are not, which is a wise perspective.
Additionally, as noted this week, James’s father appears to be healthy, tanned, and strong—not like someone who has been in a coma for seven years.
Nathan’s appearance is also quite questionable, and I believe Spinelli and others will begin to discuss this.
The Nathan we knew years ago was a wonderful person-that’s a fact, but there are concerns about whether he is the same person now.
Think how Maxie wound up in that coma-it was due to Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota); he drugged her into a coma, claiming that Maxie was asking too many questions. Sidwell made it seem like it was related to Deception, but there may be much more to the story than just skin lotion and stock shares.
We know that Sidwell is collaborating with the mysterious boss who is also linked to Nathan.
It makes sense that Sidwell was instructed to remove Maxie from the picture, but without resorting to murder; this might be so Nathan can return and take back his son, James.
Many people still think the mysterious boss could be Cesar Faison (Anders Hove); alternatively, if that isn’t really Nathan, he might have Peter August’s (Wes Ramsey) memories implanted in his mind.
Whether it’s Faison or Peter, both would want to get their hands on James. The fact that Nathan had no ID on him and was involved in a crash in an unregistered car is quite suspicious.
There are suspicions that he escaped from someone, possibly his eccentric father Faison, but when he woke up, Peter might have regained control-they could be vying for dominance over that body.
This person who resembles Nathan is far too calm given the situation, which raises another red flag suggesting it might not be him, and perhaps Peter is the one controlling Nathan’s body.
When you add Britt Westbourne’s (Kelly Thiebaud) reaction and her reluctance for James to meet Nathan, everything seems quite suspicious.
Ultimately, many believe Faison is the mysterious boss, and he might have transferred Peter’s memories into Nathan West’s body.
Faison wants to see James because he is his grandchild, and Peter is also obsessed with James; remember, when Maxie was expecting James, she believed Peter was a decent person.
In 2018, Maxie went into labor while driving home from the Nurses Ball- Peter stopped the car and helped deliver James. Maxie gave birth on the roadside with only Peter by her side.
Eventually, Maxie realized that Peter was actually Henrik Faison and quite unstable.
It’s possible that Peter believes, in a twisted sense, that James is as much his child as he is Nathan’s—after all, James is technically Peter’s nephew.
Maybe the real Nathan surfaced in Peter’s mind just long enough to break free, but then Peter took over again, and that’s who we have now, most of the time.
It’s intriguing because Nathan spoke with Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) this week—someone Peter once loved and believed to be his mother, but who ultimately let him die.
It’s certainly possible-we’ve seen a weather machine. Drew Cain Quartermaine (Cameron Mathison) was mind-controlled by Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers), and Peter and Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy) even tried their hand at it.
Victor had that virus that could end the world. Anna believed she was Peter’s mother due to implanted memories-so, yes, it could definitely happen.
The main question is why this person who resembles Nathan wants to capture James-if Faison is the hidden leader, he might want James to train.
If it’s Peter, having James gives him power over others, someone he can use as a hostage, and it would give him access to Maxie, who he was obsessed with.
Poor Maxie might think she’s experiencing a miracle with Nathan West being alive, but it could quickly turn into a nightmare.
That’s because Faison and Peter might also be alive in some way in Nathan. We may not find out the answers anytime soon, since Kirsten Storms isn’t expected to return as Maxie on General Hospital until at least early 2026.
We’re looking at another 10 to 12 weeks of this storyline before we finally uncover the full details.
Maybe we’ll see Kirsten Storms return when February Sweeps 2026 begins in late January.
Once this Nathan-like individual has his job situation sorted out, we can start the countdown to when he makes a demand and takes James away from Spinelli.
Whether he’s aware of it or not, it will appear to be just an innocent father-son reunion—but there’s likely much more to Nathan than we realize, and James might not be safe with him.
