The country music world is shocked by a true crime tragedy involving Spencer Hatcher, known for his nice songs and Southern charm. He’s grief-stricken after a violent invasion claimed the life of his mother, Holly Hatcher. Read on for more details.
Late on August 3 in their Virginia home, 62-year-old Holly, a teacher in the Shenandoah Valley, was fatally stabbed by an intruder. According to People on Monday, the suspect, identified as 41-year-old “Kevin Moses Walker,” entered the Hatcher household armed with a large knife and attacked Holly inside the home.
Bravely, her husband, Michael, 65, intervened. Unfortunately, he was injured during the struggle. However, he managed to retrieve a gun he kept in his vehicle and shot the attacker.
Michael sustained injuries but managed to fire at the assailant outdoors, fatally wounding him. It all went down in Harrisonburg, but nobody could save Holly, the mother of Spencer Hatcher.
The Express Tribune added more about the tragedy. The outlet reported that authorities described the assault as “highly unusual” and “completely random,” noting that Walker had no history of criminal violence. A few days before the tragedy, he reportedly “rented a campsite at Endless Caverns,” and bought “a knife” from a nearby “Walmart.“
Apparently, police also linked the alleged killer of Holly to a break-in at a gift shop. However, nothing seemed to have been taken.
Spencer Hatcher’s dad is obviously heartbroken, but he was able to make a statement in a video that landed on Facebook. It came on the account of the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, and Spencer told listeners that what they were talking about was only the “facts” and not “speculation.”
Then he handed over to his dad who said, in part, ‘There’s no way for you to know the trauma and the pain and the unanswered questions that I have.”
He also mentioned Spencer and his siblings, Dane and Connor, and Holly’s family. Tearfully, he told viewers, “Each of you have made it much more bearable through your outpouring of love and your caring and your kindness and support to all of us, and for that, I thank you so much.”
Spencer also took to Instagram and shared a post about how he has to cancel some appearances. In his caption, he said:
It is with a heavy heart and overwhelming sadness that – due to a monumental loss in our family – I must cancel my upcoming shows at VOA Country Music Fest in Butler County, OH (8/8) and at Rockingham County Fair in Harrisonburg, VA (8/11 & 8/12).
He also said that he hopes to “make up the dates” for his country music fans “in the future.” Plus, he asked them to respect the privacy of his family as they come to terms with the death of his mom.
In the comments of the cancellation post, fans were very understanding. They all felt the horror of the tragedy. One fan of Spencer Hatcher wrote, “So sorry man, no one should have to experience what your family went through, absolutely horrible, your dad is a hero!”
Lots of other people said how “sorry” they felt and that they would be “praying” for the whole family.
