Young And Restless Alum Daniel Goddard Takes On Role Of GH Josslyn Jacks’ Professor
General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal YR alum Daniel Goddard hinted last month that he had some big news, and now it’s finally revealed. He will be joining the cast of GH—read on for all the details about this exciting new role.
Daniel Left The Young And The Restless In 2019
Daniel Goddard departed from The Young and The Restless in 2019, having portrayed Cane Ashby intermittently since 2007. After his character’s divorce from Lily Winters (played by Christel Khalil), there were limited storylines available, particularly following the passing of Kristoff St. John ( Neil Winters) in February 2019.
Recently, Goddard hinted on social media about some significant news he couldn’t disclose at the time.
He has now announced that he will be joining General Hospital in an exciting new role. As reported by TV Line, his debut episode is set to air on Tuesday, April 15.
Daniel Originally Auditioned For Charles Mesure’s Replacement As Brennan
Many fans thought the actor’s big announcement would be about returning to The Young and The Restless. There has been online speculation that the enigmatic Aristotle Dumas on the CBS soap might actually be Cane Ashby, but that is not true. Daniel Goddard told TV Line that he wasn’t planning to return to soap operas at this stage in his career.
However, his manager reached out to him about auditioning for a part on the ABC soap General Hospital. He mentioned that he initially tried out for the role of Jack Brennan, which became available after Charles Mesure left the show unexpectedly.
Daniel Said There Was Big Competition
Goddard noted that several experienced soap actors, including Daniel Cosgrove, also auditioned for the Brennan role, but it ultimately went to Chris McKenna, a veteran from One Life To Live.
Cosgrove, however, was hired for the role of Ezra Boyle; Daniel Cosgrove is also well-known among soap opera fans. He has acted in All My Children, Guiding Light, As The World Turns, and Days Of Our Lives.
Recently, he updated his IMDb profile to include General Hospital. Now let’s talk about who Daniel Goddard will be playing.
Daniel Goddard Will Play Professor Henry Dalton
Daniel Goddard is set to play Professor Henry Dalton, who teaches environmental physics at the college attended by Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) and Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali).
However, this new character holds some secrets. Daniel Goddard shared with TV Line, “He teaches environmental physics, and it appears there are aspects of his past that have led to some kind of investigation.” The actor specifically requested GH Executive Producer Frank Valentini to keep him in the dark about further details, wanting to discover the character’s story alongside the viewers.
Some Fans Wondered Why Goddard, Who’s Australian, Didn’t Play A Jax Recast
Soap fans expressed their thoughts on social media regarding the casting announcement-while many were excited, some questioned the need for a new character. One fan said, “GH needs new men.. I’m all for it.” Another added, “It’s great that he has a different job than most characters. I just hope he’s fresh talent and not secretly connected to someone.”
A third fan remarked, “They could have just made him Jax… He’s an Australian actor in his 50s, so why not?” However, it’s worth noting that Jasper Jacks (Ingo Rademacher) is blonde, although there have been instances where characters originally brunette were recast as blonde!
