Ray Wise Talks Latest Run On The Young and the Restless & Exit – “I Didn’t Want To Leave!”
The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers indicate that while Ian Ward is officially gone from the soap, thanks to his awakening as he was hauled off to the morgue in an ambulance, fans get a sneaking suspicion that they’ll see him at some point in the future.
Actor Ray Wise caught up with Soap Opera Digest (SOD) to talk about his latest Y&R run and Ian’s dramatic exit.
Eye-Opening Scene
SOD pointed out the incredible “swan song” the Y&R crafted for Ian’s exit, and Wise acknowledged that he really liked how it all unfolded. He was asked if he practiced the “eye-opening” during the ambulance scene, which he stated he did.
The actor notes that there was a conference on how to do that scene, and they ended up doing it both very slowly and quickly. When all was said and done, it was decided that “… the quicker way was best, with a little burst of air coming out of my mouth.”
Wise notes he was very happy that the soap left a door open for Ian to return at some point.
Ray Wise Shows Love To Y&R Co-Stars
The actor goes on to state how wonderful it was to work with new characters on the show, more specifically Jordan (Colleen Zenk) and Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks). On Colleen, Wise states, “She was wonderful! We worked extremely well together.
Meanwhile, when it came to Fairbanks, Wise notes, “Cait was lovely. She’s a lovely actress and we got along immediately and uh she’s just a, a lovely actress.”
Of course, he also states how wonderful it was to work with Camryn Grimes (Mariah Copeland) once again, as well as Josh Morrow (Nick Newman), and “the biggies”,
Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) and Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman). He tells SOD, “I always enjoy my scenes with Eric, I think, the most — outside of my partnership with Colleen — because Eric and I, we’re close to the same age, and we’ve sort of been around for about the last 55 years, 60 years, and we have a lot in common as actors and as human beings.”
Ray Wise Wanted To Stick Around
When asked if he was sad to see Ian’s run end, Wise states, “Yes, I wanted to keep going! I did. And when they told me that this would be the last show, the last episode that particular week, it came as kind of a shock to me, you know? I didn’t want to leave! I was enjoying myself so much. But I think after shooting Victor Newman, you’re gonna have to go somewhere!”
