Eden McCoy, known for her role as Josslyn, has a deep well of experience when it comes to portraying sorrow and loss. Long before the tragic death of Joss’ boyfriend, Dex last month, she faced the heart-wrenching storyline of losing her first true love. Clearly, she is still grappling with the initial heartbreak — the loss of Dex — and now the looming threat of losing Michael only intensifies her frustration! GH Spoilers: All That Pain Was Hard On Eden To Bring To Her Character

The emotional toll of reliving such profound pain day after day weighed heavily on McCoy; she reflects, “Those weeks were incredibly dark. Filming was a nightmare; I certainly didn’t enjoy it. Shooting these scenes back-to-back was extremely challenging, especially since it coincided with the one-year anniversary of my mom’s passing [Natasha McCoy, who lost her battle with cancer in November 2023]. I was already in a fragile state, and then I had to go to work and confront my grief. It felt like there was no escape from it in any part of my life! Throughout the filming of these episodes, there were many genuine moments that hit close to home for me.”

General Hospital Spoilers: In Spite Of All, It Was Cathartic

McCoy admits that while the process was undeniably challenging, it also served as a powerful release; “It was a cathartic experience,” she reflects. “Selfishly, as an actor, I thought, ‘I already feel terrible, so let’s just channel all of this-at least I had a way to express these overwhelming emotions.” She reveals that from the moment she learned about GH’s decision to write Dex’s death into the storyline, she prepared herself to confront her own experiences with grief.

“I wasn’t worried about how it would affect Josslyn’s arc,” she explains; “What truly frightened me was the personal aspect — facing the grief I carry as Eden. I had to confront those deep wounds to honor the story, because that’s what my role demands.”

GH Spoilers: Eden Talks About The Death Of Her Mother

McCoy reflects that after her mother passed away, her work became a way to avoid facing her feelings and experiences. While this helped her cope for a time, the recent storyline forced her to confront many of the challenges Eden faced, which was both new and frightening for her. She admits to feeling anxious while filming certain scenes, emotions that wouldn’t have surfaced if she hadn’t experienced such significant loss and changes in her life over the past year. She adds that her personal grief is now emerging as the initial shock has faded, especially as she marked the anniversary of her mother’s death.

Eden continued, “The intertwining of my life with Josslyn’s was filled with an array of strange coincidences and consecutive moments that left me feeling both anxious and overwhelmed. Yet there was an undeniable beauty in it all; every situation has its ups and downs, right? It became quite the struggle to balance work and carry those emotions home day after day, all while knowing I had to face it again the next morning.

“But that’s life,” the actress reflects. “It teaches us that this is just how things unfold-I experienced surprises, and so did Josslyn.”

GH Spoilers: Eden’s Grief Journey

McCoy’s journey through grief after losing her mother has given her confidence in her ability to portray truth in her work. As Joss deals with life after Dex and the possibility of her brother’s death, McCoy reflects. “Back when we were working on the Oscar story, I often felt overwhelmed, thinking, ‘I have so much pressure,’ because I hadn’t experienced a close loss before. That was years ago, and I wondered how I could do justice to the story since so many have faced similar pain. Now, while filming this story, I’m in a different place in my life. I’ve experienced the worst loss possible, and I thought, ‘I can handle this!’

General Hospital Spoilers: Looking Back

It was almost funny to think about my younger self, who felt lost and unsure.-now, I feel ready and say, ‘Let’s roll the cameras!’ It was a moment to laugh at myself and the situation; overall, I feel more prepared for this than I ever did before.” McCoy shares that a year after her mother’s death, she feels deeply transformed as both an actor and a person.

“Definitely,” she agrees. “I’m just a different person now. The way I approach life, what I value, my character, my fears, and even my courage — everything has completely changed.”

GH Spoilers: Eden Feels More Present And Grounded

She has noticed changes in herself, feeling more present and grounded in her daily life, which has affected her work. “As an actor, my experiences are richer and more meaningful; I understand what it’s like to have everything change in an instant. That’s what Josslyn went through, and it can happen to anyone. You don’t need to face huge losses like losing a boyfriend or a mother at a young age to feel this way- I’ve experienced it, and it opened my eyes to new emotions. I know the feeling of missing someone who isn’t there or wishing for things to be different; until you go through it, you can’t truly understand.”
