Kimberly began, “To my cherished family in LA, my heart aches for you during this challenging time. I vividly remember the panic of being evacuated in the dead of night at the onset of the #ThomasFire back in 2017 while caring for a five-month-old baby. I want to share some important advice with you-it’s incredibly tough to think clearly when fear grips you and devastation surrounds you.

For those evacuating or seeking safety beyond your area, please do this: if time permits, before stepping out of your home, double-check that all windows are securely closed. I recall leaving Ojai at 3 a.m. and realizing too late that a small bathroom window had been left ajar.

The smoke that seeped into our home clung to the walls, infiltrated the insulation, and settled into every mattress and absorbent surface, racking up a staggering $30,000 in damages.

With a young child in the house, we were strongly advised to stay away for three months while the interior was repainted and all contaminated items were replaced. I found myself spending countless hours on the phone with my insurance company, navigating the chaos of moving seven times in just three months to secure coverage for the expenses.
