Colleen Zenk has made a significant mark in the world of soap operas, with memorable roles in shows like As the World Turns and The Young and the Restless.
Recently, she found herself in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, as she faced derogatory remarks about her age on social media.
However, her loyal fans quickly rallied to her side, standing up for the talented actress and showing their unwavering support.
In 1978, Zenk landed the iconic role of Barbara Ryan in As the World Turns, showcasing her relentless perseverance after facing 12 failed screen tests for soap operas.
While she was the fourth actress to embody this character, Zenk emerged as the most celebrated portrayal of Barbara Ryan, passionately bringing the role to life until 2010.
In 2023, Zenk made a highly anticipated return to the soap opera scene, stepping back into the role of Jordan Howard on The Young and the Restless. Last November, her character joined forces with Ian Ward, creating chaos in Genoa City alongside actor Ray Wise.
This dynamic duo thrilled many fans, with one enthusiastic viewer on X declaring, “I could watch these two devils all day and never tire of them!” The excitement was palpable, especially with accompanying screenshots of Zenk and Wise. However, not all feedback was positive; one comment noted, “She didn’t age well and she was so pretty on “As the World Turns.”
Zenk took the opportunity to respond to the post, stating, “Hello. I’ve battled oral cancer twice, and I haven’t resorted to plastic surgery or Botox; I’m 71—how about you?” She also provided a link for her followers to educate themselves about oral cancer.
Many fans rallied to support Zenk, with one remarking, “Didn’t anyone teach you that if you can’t say something nice, it’s better to say nothing at all-how rude!”
Another fan added, “Excuse me, but your comment was both rude and incorrect—I’ve watched Colleen Zenk on ATWT for years, and I see hardly any change.” Her beauty and elegance remain just as striking as when she portrayed Barbara.
That fan continued, “ It would be fantastic for her to continue as a regular on Y&R; the show would be fortunate to have such a talented actress on board.” Zenk’s journey took a significant turn in 2007 when she was diagnosed with oral cancer while still starring in As the World Turns, as reported by Monsters & Critics.
Since then, she has passionately advocated for awareness and support for this disease. In her commitment to the cause, she established a partnership with the Oral Cancer Foundation. Additionally, she addressed rumors regarding plastic surgery in a video featured by The Locher Room, shedding light on her experiences.
