However, Ridge, in particular, believes that Justin, the man who owes him his freedom, can find a loophole.

However, viewers recall an unresolved issue involving Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson) dangling over Ridge’s head. That criminal event could doom FC, put Thomas in jail, and keep Carter atop the corporate ladder indefinitely.

Thomas wanted to stop Emma Barber (Nia Sioux) from telling Hope the secret. Devoted fans recall that Atkinson’s character threatened multiple people at FC to keep quiet about Beth Spencer (Jordyn Lynn Ariza) being alive when she was assumed dead.

Emma, Justin’s niece, learned the truth and was going to tell Hope. But Thomas chased her in his car from FC to Mulholland Drive. Emma was blinded by Thomas’ high beams and proximity to her car.

She went over the side of the road, crashed, and died while Thomas peered down from above. Ridge didn’t relay that terrible fact to Justin when, a while later in storyline time, he pressured him to remain available to do his bidding following his revealed kidnapping of Thomas.

Ridge and Thomas are the only characters aware of what Atkinson’s character did. Ridge kept that secret tight to ensure his son wouldn’t go to jail and because he chose to believe Thomas’ explanation about Emma’s death being an accident.

But what happens if Carter takes control of FC and has access to sensitive information?

It is feasible to believe that Carter could find evidence of Thomas’ crime or Ridge’s awareness of something veiled, meaning the circumstances of Emma’s death. Connecting short dots, Carter would then be able to break Ridge’s hold over Justin by telling him the truth. That would serve multiple purposes if Saint-Victor’s character is in charge.

Learning that Ridge squashed Thomas’ crime would result in an enormous response. Depending upon the timing, Justin could sabotage Ridge by pretending no legal action can be taken to reverse Carter’s move.

Alternatively, Justin could go after Thomas and set up that likely returned character to face legal justice. But, of course, Justin would need to balance his lust for provenance with his need to keep the kidnapping information sealed.

Of course, Carter might learn why Justin is working for Ridge and exploit that information for his purposes. That could happen whether or not he told Justin the truth about Emma.
