Is General Hospital Trying To Erase ‘Vanna’ And ‘Sona’?
General Hospital fans had two popular but controversial couples on their hands and when they broke up, we figured it was the life cycle of a supercouple — but we aren’t getting the breakup angst we expected.
Valentin And Anna Act Like Acquaintances
We understand why GH broke up Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) and Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) although they had barely been together.
Stuart believed he was going to film another season of the Disney series The Villains of Valley View, but did not realize the Hollywood strikes delayed things.
So, Valentin and Anna are apart because we were not supposed to see Valentin on screen for months.
Unfortunately, the writers decided to just pretend they didn’t just have an extremely tense and passionate relationship, as well as a devastating split.
They hadn’t shared scenes since before the new year but when they ran into one another at the Metro Court this week, they acted like they were casual acquaintances.
In fact, Valentin walked away from his conversation with Anna when he saw Dark Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) harassing Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros), as he tends to do.
Anna didn’t even think anything of it and Vanna fans were left perplexed. Why did they act like they barely knew one another?
Why Won’t Sonny And Nina Talk?
We knew Nina’s split with Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) was coming since last spring when Nina had Martin Grey call the SEC and report the fact that committed insider trading.
The secret finally came out on New Year’s Eve and rather than seeing angst-filled and emotional confrontations between Sonny and his bride, we’ve seen…nothing aside from Sonny slamming the door in Nina’s face.
In the more than six weeks since Sonny learned the truth, he has had one brief 20-second scene with his wife in the hospital hallways.
This is not soapy and not what Sona fans want to see. There is no resolution, no real heartbreak, and nothing to look forward to.
Where is the longing? Where are the tears? Make it make sense, GH, and give us a soap again for our two mature couples who still deserve a chance.
Tune into General Hospital weekdays on ABC to see how these stories play out.
