The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers document that Jeremy Stark’s (James Hyde) surprising return to Genoa City, Wisconsin led to a threat. His run-in with Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) at the Grand Phoenix hotel involved another attempt to form a partnership.

Phyllis is the person who provided Jeremy with Diane Jenkins’ (Susan Walters) location. But Stafford’s character soon realized that Jeremy was too dangerous. While she detests Diane, even Phyllis did not want to see Diane get hurt.

Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) spoke with Phyllis minutes before Jeremy entered the scene. His shift from Red to Kyle Abbott’s (Michael Mealor) mother was monumental. Jeremy’s release from jail and his guarantee to Phyllis, about getting Diane, provides storyline momentum.

Devoted fans know, and newer fans have learned through flashbacks and current dialogue that Jack and Diane were never married. However, their enduring tie through Kyle set the soapy stage for their renewed love interest.

Jack has been searching for romance in recent years. A segment of the terrific arc that involved the last year of Dina Mergeron’s (Marla Adams, the 2021 Daytime Emmy winner in the Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category) life included Jack believing a cryptic message.

Bergman’s character decided that his portion of the Teardrop of Love meant he should not give up on finding new love. In his mind, Diane is the realization of that encouragement.

The Young And The Restless Updates – Would Dina Mergeron Agree With Son?

Whether Dina would agree with Jack’s conclusion is a good question. Adams’ character did not suffer fools and was a fierce defender of her children.

While Adams’ character abandoned her children decades ago, she made restitution to her family. Jack, Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), and Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) overcame the emotional scars Dina caused. They embraced Dina during the last portion of her life and knew she loved them.

Diane certainly loves Jack. But her pattern of disruptive behavior calls into continued question whether she can gain and then retain stability.

Diane Jenkins’ Powerful Pull

Diane’s ability to gain Kyle’s forgiveness and regain Jack’s trust was impressive. But Kyle’s concerns about his parents’ romantic revival are legitimate.

Kyle told his father he is worried Diane may abandon them again if her relationship with Jack falters. Jack has reassured his son that he and Diane are in a different space in life and that today’s circumstances are not similar to the past.

It is easy to believe Jack and Diane will marry for the first time. Jeremy’s return to town means Jack will defend Diane once more and likely deepen his bond with the woman he has fallen back in love with on Y&R.
