Indulge your love of Hogwarts with a cozy stay in The Dorm, North Shire’s newest Harry Potter-style vacation accommodation.
It is some 20 years since the first Harry Potter book was published, but the books – and the resulting movies – are as popular as ever. Fans of Harry and his friends can experience the perfect stay in single, wooden four-poster beds, a lounge that looks like the Gryffindor common room, and a bathroom that comes with a mermaid stained-glass window. But this isn’t all, as there are other quaint and comfortable accommodations at North Shire.
Curl Up In Front Of A Fire In The Dorm
This new vacation accommodation perfectly mimics the movie portrayal of our favorite wizarding students’ living quarters. North Shire is located at Liverton, at the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Despite the recent COVID-19 pandemic, they have just opened the latest Potter-themed accommodation with a remarkable interior. Stepping through the door is like entering the magical world of Hogwarts itself and staying in a look-alike castle tower bedroom.
Business entrepreneur and designer Carol Cavendish opened North Shire in 2010. She was inspired to create The Dorm, which mirrors the Gryffindor dormitory and the common room shared by Harry and his pals in the movies.
What Is On Offer At The Dorm?
On the site is the roundhouse cottage, which contains six handmade, wooden four-poster single beds. Each bed has red curtains and matching bedspreads, all marked with golden roman numerals etched on their frames.
The open-plan lounge area looks exactly like the students’ common room and has comfy sofas facing a large stone fireplace – perfect for cool evenings. A kitchen area is located close by with a breakfast bar for guests to enjoy a tasty meal.
Meanwhile, other facilities replicate the fancy prefects’ bathroom in Hogwarts Castle, especially with the beautiful, backlit stained-glass window depicting a mermaid – famous in the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire movie.
There are also golden hand basins shaped like giant shells and fancy, Gothic-style mirrors. The Dorm can be rented at £50 ($65) per person per night for six people sharing.

Groundkeeper’s Cottage
Groundkeeper’s CottageThe new addition comes 18 months after the Groundkeeper’s Cottage was complete. This is based on Hagrid’s Hut from the Potter films and can also accommodate six people.
Besides the Harry Potter-themed accommodation, there is a Hobbit-hole-inspired cottage called Potts Corner. It has a turf roof, round, stained-glass windows, and round doors. There is also a Storybook Cottage, shepherds’ huts, and gypsy caravans available for a quaint and comfortable stay.
Plan A Wedding In Dreamy Surroundings
For those planning a wedding, North Shire can also offer the Little Manor, or Le Petit Chateau, with four luxury suites, along with a chandelier and grand piano and an Orangery with a pretty fountain. The property is licensed for wedding ceremonies and other events.
North Shire’s is on a six-acre estate, seven miles inland from the fishing village of Staithes. It is perfect for anyone wanting to step away from reality, especially during the current difficult times.
