Maya Rudolph Says She Feels ‘Really Lucky’ About Being a Mom
For her fans, Maya Rudolph is many different things. She’s talented, she’s clever, she’s humble, and above all, she’s incredibly funny. But at home, she’s a mother. The former Saturday Night Live star recently opened up about her life at home and how she feels lucky these days to just be “mom.”
The actress shares four children with her husband, Paul Thomas Anderson: Pearl, 11, Lucille, 7, Jack, 6, and Minnie, 4. She said that while she never envisioned herself having four kids, she thanks her lucky stars everyday for the family that she has. She also notes that a lot of people look at her like she’s a “weirdo” simply because large families aren’t very common anymore.
“The triumph is the people that love each other. I mean, I feel lucky having — I never imagined I’d have four kids — that was never the goal. I feel really lucky that everyone is healthy and amazing,” she told Us Weekly. “It’s endless stuff. It’s endless entertainment, it’s endless stress, endless responsibility. Everyone’s at different ages and levels, everyone’s into different stuff. But everyone is into slime.”
And even with her four kids and her career, Maya says that she still manages to find a little alone time with her husband Paul, even if it does seem awkwardly quiet at time. And while she appreciates it, she’s not fully used to it, either.
“We went to Vegas one night last week to see a show,” she said. “It was really cool because we went to bed and were like, ‘That’s it.’ No one’s coming into bed at one in the morning, crying or have peed.”
Maya also added, “I gotta say, those moments after you have kids when you come home and they’re not there, it feels weird.”
