5 Things That Will Become Your Best Friends as a Mom (#AventMoms Giveaway)
Moms are constantly busy and sometimes it feels like we can’t get a minute to ourselves. With active nine-month-old twin girls and an always on-the-go kindergartener, I understand this well! Extra help is a blessing, but it can’t alway come in the form of another person-dad or grandma taking over. So, sometimes we have to improvise and make it work when we are on our own. Over time I have figured out certain activities and baby products that can make my life a little easier. Here are five things that have become my best friends when I need a little break from the joys of motherhood.
5 Things That Will Become Your Best friends as a Mom
Naps
Nap when the baby naps. As a mom, you have probably heard this countless times, but it’s so true! When those sweet little angels are taking a nap be sure to sneak one in yourself no matter how tempted you are to do the dishes, fold clothes, or mop up the syrup leftover from breakfast. Sticky floors can wait! In the end, you will be a happier mom, woman, wife, and in general human being if you’re rested. Snuggle right up to those bundles and have a snooze fest whenever you can! The added bonus is that this is amazing bonding time with your children and wake up time will be the sweetest moments of your day.
Play Dates
Play dates may seem like a hassle, but there a great way to sneak in some grownup time over coffee. Your kids get an opportunity to socialize as well and learn important social skills while just having fun ( this also has the benefit of tiring them out for those all important naps!)
Lists
Mom Brain is a real thing, it happens and the more kids you have the worse it can be. Remember how you used to laugh at your mom when she walked into a room and forgot why she was there? Well, this is now your reality! So, keep a pad and paper handy so you can jot down everything you need like milk, eggs, diaper cream, and chocolate.
Travel Play Yard
These are fantastic for hotel stays, visiting the in-laws, or even at home for playtime when you need a break from little crawlers. Toss in a couple safe toys and give them a little quiet space. They will learn to explore and amuse themselves too. Plus, play yards can easily be moved from room to room as well!
Video Monitor
A video monitor may be one of the most valuable baby products a parent can have! My Philips Avent SCD 630/37 Video Monitor allows me to get the much-needed break I need at the end of the day. I can sit downstairs with my husband, yet still feel close to the twins and reassured that they’re safe. With the portable video monitor, you can also keep an eye on your little one while catching up on phone calls, replying to an email, and even watching that series you have been dying to see!
As an added benefit, the Philips Avent SCD 630/37 Video Monitor also has a comforting night light and lullabies to calm babies into sweet slumber. So, if baby wakes up during the night you don’t have to go running to his/her room right away.
These are some other features to love about the Philips Avent SCD 630/37 Video Monitor:
- Its adaptive FHSS technology offers a private and secure connection (with minimal interference).
- The 150 ft range allows you to be at another end of the house.
- An ECO Mode reduces power consumption during quiet times while still connected to your baby via the unique link indication
- Sound activated lights indicate if the baby makes noise even when the parent unit is muted
- A talkback feature
- 3.5” color resolution screen
- Up to 10 hours of operating time before charging is required
Other moms also love the Philips Avent SCD 630/37 Video Monitor. It won the Parent Tested Parent Approved Seal of Approval (PTPA).Which means that the products have been put in the hands of real parents to be rigorously tested and later reviewed. Each of these products has won the seal for use in their packaging and marketing initiatives to tell other parents that they’ve been truly tried and tested.

This post takes me back to my early days with Jess. I remember how important naps were to me then. The tips are great and those babies are adorable! I don’t think we had video monitors then. What a great idea!
I am personally CFBC and haven’t gone through birth and newborns. BUT my stepdaughter has a six month old and I believe she got one of these. SO important to be able to keep an eye on the baby or babies as in your case : ).
I love the idea of the baby monitor having added functionality of having the light and being able to play a lullaby. Wow things thave changed so much from when my daughters were younger. Do you use the talkback feature? I can imagine that it could be so soothing for the babies to hear your voice to calm them if and when they wake up.
Not a mom, but these seems like a great list for those who are!
Oh how I remember the day with little ones .. such a great memories. You’re so right .. I lived for naps and playdates. Thanks for a great post!
I know that the video monitor is really great to have because you can see if your baby is sleeping, awake or whatever they are doing when you are not in their nursery. Yes to naps. Try to get as many as you can when that baby is sleeping. The travel playyard is really great for that baby. Fun for them. Maybe another nap for you.
Having 4 kids myself, I agree with each and every last one of these! I really wish that baby monitors with a video feature were around when my kids were infants — would have made life so much easier (especially in the middle of the night)! lol
I had my kids before there were video monitors. I would have LOVED one.
You just nailed it! Naps are essential (and rarely available) when you’re a mom. I LOVE that baby monitor. I thought my baby monitor was awesome because the audio wasn’t full of white noise. Tech has come a long way!
Naps are so essential for moms! My kids never wanted to take naps, but I sure did.
Not entering this great giveaway because my kiddos are all grown now but I sure wish I had a monitor like this when they were little! I think list making, which is a HUGE thing for me even now, started from being a mom! LOL great article!
I was just telling my 6-year-old how much I miss when he was a baby. We’d take wonderful naps during the day.
Great giveaway for new moms!
Yup. My best friend when my son was a baby was naps.
Naps were my best friend. They left too soon with my boys though as they gave up naps at age 2
Yes! Naps will definitely become your best friend! I never knew that I would enjoy naps like I do now that I am an adult/mom. Not those 2 hour kind of naps, but just a quick power nap that leaves you feeling like a whole new person. Oh how I wish they would have had video monitors when my kids were little! I know I would have slept 1000x better with one!
Amen to naps and playdates! My youngest is 5 and I still crave naps and surrender to them whenever I can. Playdates also make everything so much easier. It is actually way better to watch 2 occupied kids than it is to watch 1 unoccupied and bored kid!
I have to agree those are two things that will become your best friend as a mom to young ones. Loved reading this, I do miss the baby years sometimes.
When my kids were babies, they had just come out with baby monitors and they certainly didn’t have video monitors! I could have used one, that’s for sure. These are great tips for new moms, I heartily agree with napping when your baby naps and play dates are sanity savers!
I don’t have children, but I can imagine just how helpful all of your suggestions are. I bet a lot of Moms try to get a lot of things done when the baby naps, but I think it is important to take the time to recharge. I also like that the baby monitor featured here has an ‘eco mode.’
I need to have more play dates for my kiddos! But the naps and travel play yards are definitely top on my best friend list!
Video monitors are such a sanity-saver for parents. I wish they had been around when my kids were little.
A video monitor is a great way to keep track of your little one and keep you from worrying. It is amazing how much technology can help!
Naps are my best friend and I’m not yet a mum!!!
This will be a big help for moms out there that they can still monitor babies even when they are doing their everyday task. And that comforting night light and lullabies to calm babies when they wake up during the night was totally amazing. It can really help you makes life easier.
Lists are life savers. I think a good friend who is willing to help you when you get overwhelmed is also huge.
Yes, yes, yes to naps and play dates. We all need a little respite from the crazy, loud wonderfulness of children.
With my oldest I used monitors like crazy. Now with my second one, he won’t sleep without me.
Naps are definitely my best friend!! I am loving that monitor too. It is so important to be able to see them.
This baby monitor looks amazing and has some awesome features. As a mom of 2, a video monitor has always been very important to me as well. I love all of your other tips as well!
OMG! My family is an Avent fan and I am always thinking about to buy this video monitor! I wish I can participate in this giveaway!
This looks like a great video monitor!! I love how far technology has come to make sure that baby is safe while sleeping.
This is a good list. I am sure my sister-in-law, who is a stay-at-home mom of four small boys, would definitely agree with it!
These are so true! Naps were my bestfriend when my kids were babies. And of course video monitors are a huge help too!
Yes to NAPS and a travel play yard and of course a video monitor! All these products will definitely make a new mom’s life that much more easier and dare I say it ENJOYABLE!!
Sad I missed the giveaway but this was a great post. I’ll be saving this when I have kids of my own.
I would have loved to have a video monitor when my kids were born. It is a great baby shower gift idea for my Niece.
Your list is spot on! I had to take a nap with my baby because I was so exhausted. By the way, your girls are gorgeous!
This is a great post. I always looked forward to nap time when my son was little. I would always tried to sneak in at least a 30 minute nap with him.
Oh man, this takes me back. Lists are the end all be all best friend of moms. I would not have made it through without extensive list making. LOL
We have lots of avent stuff for our new babe on the way. Love their products!
We have a really small apartment so we have never needed a baby monitor but I know that my sister swears by them. I napped a lot when my daughter was a baby, wish she would take naps now too!
Aww, funny. I had all those 5 things when my boys were babies. I even formed my own local moms group so I can have playdates with my babies and mom friends all the time! 🙂
I am still nervous when my son sleeps, but he is 13, so I am much more clamed down! Although I do envision calling his wife and checking on his breathing when he gets married!
My kids are teens now and my favorite part of the day is still nap time. Only now, I’m taking them by myself.
There were no video monitors back when my boys were born. This monitor sounds like it has great features.
I know how much I love lists now I can only imagine once kids are involved they really help!
What a cool stuff! I think I need this I’m planning to back at my work and I need this video monitor for our new nanny
Naps became my best friend when my daughter was born. They still are today. I just love a good nap in the middle of the day.
I am always so impressed with how far technology has come since my girls were babies. We just had sound monitors that would pick up the neighbors telephone calls lol. I would have loved a monitor like this, for sure! And naps. More naps would have been great too 🙂
Naps are such a life saver. Some weeks are so tough that naps are the only sleep possible. More is better but take what you can get.
This is nice. Unfortunately, our kids are in 20’s so these are of no use for us. However we are sure, in a few years, we will be looking for something similar. You know what I mean?
Totally agree. These products are life saver and best friend for a mother.
Such a helpful post with a great giveaway.
These are so true! Naps are my favorites! 😀 I wish I had this monitor when my kids were babies.
Oh my goodness, all that cuteness in a crib!! 🙂 I think it’s important to have good monitoring system when there are little ones in the house.
I ADORE this avent monitor. This is such a wonderful one, the screen on the parent unit is my absolute favourite by far from any monitor ever.
I wish they had cool gadgets like this when my kids were babies. I only had a basic sound monitor.
I really like the sound of nap time. It’s crucial to sleep if we want to take a better care of our children and house as well. I think video monitor is a great idea because it allows you to watch over your kids when you’re busy with work or similar.
Philips Avent really out did themselves with this monitor! I would have loved to have such a nice gadget when my kids were younger!
That would of been nice to have. Moms have lots of help these days.
I wish I knew this when my son was a baby this is really amazing and must have for all moms.
I know someone who really need this! She will surely love it for sure.
We didn’t have these fancy baby monitors when my kids were little. The video monitor would have saved me all those times checking on my kids.
I would have loved to have stuff like available when mine was little, the play pens do look really good though and very helpful for keeping little ones in one place when you have stuff to do
Ahhh! I remember those days when my kids were babies. It is always a challenge even taking a shower but all is worth in the end.
Video monitors are seriously one of the best things ever for moms with little ones! My sister had one for her first born and then upgraded for her second. They are a must-have for sure!
I wish I knew about this video monitors of Avent when my son is only a less 1-year-old! He fell from the crib twice and it alarms me so much! if only i had this Avent vide monitor, it would not happen! now i know what to buy for my sister!
my family is an Avent user and this Monitoring video is very useful! been using it the whole time since I gave birth to my little angel!
The layout of our house is sort of different, and the bedrooms are separate from the living room. It made a good baby monitor so critical when my kids were little. This looks like great option.
This monitor looks fabulous! I wish I had one like it when my kids were babies.
Naps also helped me out too 😉
It is amazing how much these monitors keep improving!! This looks like an amazing baby monitor for piece of mind with babies!
I think the monitor is a must-have for moms. I couldn’t have lived without mine.
All of this is so, so true… especially in the beginning. My little one hated to nap so I had to check that one off my list BUT having backup playdates, lists of what needed to get done, and the proper equipment was a must. Great post filled with truth!
I love all of these things. The only thing that makes me nervous about the video monitor is that hackers can get in and look around. Have you heard about this? The play yard is my favorite thing ever. Yes, the Avent bottles I think are the best.
I’ve never used a monitor and would have loved to win one for my next baby but unfortunately, it’s not valid in my country.
I don’t have kids but I totally understand that being a mommy is a full-time job. Also, I like your giveaway. It’s must for every mom!
This makes you want to have a little one all over again. I agree one main thing I really liked was my monitor when my son was little. I love how they are getting better in design as the years go on!
We don’t have kids yet, but I can definitely see how each one of these items would be a mom’s best friend! Love the idea of a video monitor…can’t believe how technology has changed everything…even being a mom! 🙂
A monitor is so necessary for moms!! This one is great, it is one of the best.
Being a mom of two I can very much relate with you on everything you have mentioned here. I do always nap when they nap to make sure I get the much needed rest and a video monitor is something I always wanted to have sometime sooner!
These are all accurate! Especially the naps! If you’re a new mom handling your first baby/babies, you’re never going to get enough sleep and you have to make up for it with naps while the baby/babies are sleeping.
Naps were and still are my best friend. Even though our oldest doesn’t take naps he normally still has quiet time so I can rest or really get stuff done.
I like naps now and I dont even have kids yet…I pray I can still nap when I have kids too. I think the video monitor is a must for all modern moms!
We used the monitor so many times with our firstborn. It was a blessing! We’d even put it on while he napped and we would make dinner in the kitchen.
I agree with you. Of all in the list, NAP was my precious BFF that I always craved to have when my daughter was still very young. I also had a baby monitor (different brand) which I carried with me at all times if I needed to do something while she was asleep. That monitor was very handy and helpful.
What a lovely giveaway and great ideas for fellow mamas, I am loving the video monitoring system
Baby monitor is a must have device! Thanks for hosting this giveaway, i will share this with my friends!
I could not agree more with this list! I think it’s awesome to have all of these when you have a baby! Especially the extra nap times, lol!
Wow, this is so cool! This is what I need right now. I am going back to work and we hired a new housemaid that can look to my 2 boys
Yes…. Naps should ALWAYS be #1! LOL
