Shakira Throws World Baby Shower For Charity
Shakira is hosting a world baby shower for the impending birth of her second child with soccer star Gerard Piqué.
On Monday, the couple shared a maternity shot together and with their son Milan to announce the World Baby Shower, which benefits UNICEF.
“Now that we are about to be parents for the second time, we want to take it one step further: by making baby showers with a philanthropic bent accessible to everyone,” she wrote on Monday. “Thanks to social media, celebrities are not the only ones who are able to make a real change. Now you can contribute so that baby showers that give to other children become a new global trend.”
To contribute to the campaign, people can buy and send “gifts” including midwifery kits, measles and polio vaccines, blankets, baby scales, soccer balls and storybooks.
Shakira held a similar baby shower event while pregnant with her two-year-old son.
The first event was able to fund nearly four tons of therapeutic good packets, more than 80,000 polio vaccines, almost 200,000 rehydrating salts and about 1,000 mosquito nets through fans’ donations.
The former Voice coach is expecting another boy in September.
