Pregnancy Safe Cocktails for NYE
2014 is around the corner and you don’t want to be stuck in the corner with a Diet Coke for the rest of the holiday season. If you’re looking for tips on fun cocktails while limiting your alcohol, look no further.
Here are some fun alcohol free alternatives to help you wrap up the holiday season and ring in the new year.
Cranberry Coconut Fauxjito
Add cranberries, some mint leaves, a little sugar and the juice of a lime to a glass of coconut water and sparkling water. Rim the glass with sugar and garnish with mint for a festive touch.
Kir Speciale
The bubbles and elegance of this drink are perfect for a midnight toast. Add some berries (frozen or fresh) to a glass of sparkling cider. Add fancy ice cubes if you’re being extra festive.
Mulled Pomegranate Juice
Warm pomegranate juice with the right spices is a perfect stand-in for mulled wine. While the juice is tasty on its own, try warming it up and playing with typical mulling spices like cloves, cinnamon sticks and orange zest.
Frost Bite Mocktail
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, 1 oz of lime juice, 1 oz of pineapple juice and mix. Add 2 oz white grape juice, some fresh mint leaves and some blueberries. Crush a couple of the blueberries with the back of a spoon. Shake well and strain into a glass filled with ice. Top with soda or select lemon-lime soft drink. Garnish with blueberries.
Pineapple Orange Sparkler
Put a cherry in each glass. Mix 2 2/3 cups of chilled pineapple and 1 1/3 cup of orange juice. Chill for 30 minutes and then add sparkling wine, champagne or alcohol free alternative. Pour and enjoy.
Eggnog Punch
For a twist on a holiday favourite, try a cool, spiced, creamy creation. Place vanilla or cinnamon ice cream in a punch bowl, add some egg nog (remember – eggs must be pasteurised if you’re expecting!) Stir and mash the mix using a potato masher or fork until the ice cream is melted and everything is combined. Stir in a little more eggnog and slowly pour in some cream soda. Add a peppermint, cinnamon stick or candy cande to the glass. And sprinkle light with cinnamon.
