Valentine’s Day Red Hot Play Dough For Kids
Make your pint-sized Valentine something that smells fabulous and lasts for weeks- the fun will just keep on and on. Cinnamon scented play dough is a fun treat that builds fine motor skills, encourages imaginative play, and is just fun for littles and you! Homemade dough is safer than store bought and we prefer the scent and texture of this recipe to any purchased brand. Grab some supplies and let’s get busy making this Valentine’s day treat.
Ingredients
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
¼ cup salt
1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
cinnamon extract or essential oil
1 cup very hot water
red food coloring
red glitter
Directions:
While you can stir this by hand I find it much easier to use my mixer as it cools faster, and I can keep my hands from being dyed by kneading the food coloring in- I just let the mixer do all the work.
Place flour, salt, and cream of tartar in mixer, combine on low (use flat beater attachment).
Heat water in microwave for 2 minutes, then add to dry ingredients until well blended.
Begin adding red food coloring, glitter, and cinnamon extract until the color and scent is how you want it.
Continue to mix on low until cool, if dough is still sticky add a bit of flour until smooth.
Supply your child with a roller, cookie cutters, or even small toys to play with in the dough.
Store in an airtight container when not in use, most batches last me for 1 to 2 months.
Enjoy!
What a wonderful idea! Thanks for making this information available – especially in the cold winter months when kids need product to occupy their time and minds!
What a great idea for Valentines day. It must smell amazing too.
What a cute idea and it looks so easy to make. I hate the smell of play dough but this would be awesome!
This seems like a super easy craft idea to do with the kids. And, kids love playdo and even if they make a mess, it’s easy to clean up.
awww these are so adorable and look absolutely gorgeous, I have not made dough in a long time and i am not even ready for valentines yet
This would be excellent gifts for Valentines Day. You can also sell this and I’m sure a lot would be buying this.
As most people commented on this thread, I also hate the smell of playdoh! I can’t eve count how many times I’ve thought to make my own…but never end up doing so (I’m too busy in the kitchen, lol)
My youngest daughter loves making me stuff with her playdough! And this seems like such a fun way for us to do it together. I might have to not add to much cinnamon because I could so see her licking it…hahaha!
This looks like so much fun for Valentine’s Day! I love all of the fun play-doh recipes that are out there now!
My mom used to make play-do for us as kids and we loved it! I always loved doing this, and I think I will do this for my son when he’s old enough!
Wow, perfect way to spend some time with my cousins this Valentines. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
My daughter and I love making playdough. I have never made a scented version though. I bet that would be neat.
This is absolutely fun loving stuff for kids, which would smell so amazing too. A great idea for the valentines day. Looks like it is very easy to make as well. Thanks for sharing.
Awwww How cute! This would be a wonderful idea for desert for a romantic dinner for two on Valentines evening or a cute idea for the kiddies and mommy to do to spend some quality time together and for when daddy gets home and surprise him.
That looks super easy to make and would provide hours of entertainment. I’ll have to pass this on to my friends with young children.
This looks like an easy Valentines day craft my girls would LOVE.
Thiis really cool and looks very easy to follow. My little girl is asking me for art activities this VDay,. we might give this one a try.
My grandkids are coming over this weekend and this is a perfect activity to do with them. I like homemade play dough so much better than the store bought and this will smell amazing with the cinnamon in it.
What a great idea! My daughter is a huge fan of Play-Doh! I haven’t made any play dough at home before, so have to give it a try! Love the colour.
I love this for so many reasons on so many levels. We have given up purchasing playdough for our little because she constantly leaves it out and it dries up … that can be very costly. We are now focused on trying to make our own and what better time then around Valentine’s Day. This looks so fun and easy, can’t wait to give it a try!
