The Young And The Restless: Lauren Koslow Reveals The Shocking Phone Call That Landed Her Jill Abbott

On Monday, June 29, Lauren Koslow returned to ‘The Young and the Restless,’ 40 years since she appeared on the soap, to cover for Jess Walton. The latter couldn’t travel to Los Angeles from her hometown Oregon due to a scheduling conflict.

Jess Walton has been the long-time portrayer of the beloved ‘Y&R’s’ Jill Abbott, but on Monday, Koslow took up the mantel. For Koslow, receiving the call for the role felt like the perfect full-circle moment.

Lauren Koslow Shares Her Feelings Getting to Return To ‘The Young and the Restless’

Even though Lauren Koslow’s run in ‘The Young and the Restless’ lasted but a short moment (1984-86), returning to the show with a new name was still a happy thing for her. After all, she got her start on the soaps playing Lindsey Wells. Who would forget their first, right?

“I do know Jill because I blackmailed Jill as Lindsey, but that was Brenda Dickson’s Jill,” Koslow, who has spent 30 years on ‘Days of Our Lives,’ recalled, referencing the actress who originated the role in 1973. “I’ve seen Y&R with Jess on it, but it’s been a while, so I wanted to get up to date because there’s a lot of history.”

For Koslow, fan sites helped speed up her research for Walton’s brand of Jill Abbott, because “the audience knows best.”

However, since she was given such a short notice, when the first taping date rolled in, she was understandably wracked with nerves. “I was so excited to do it, but I knew it was going to be a lot. And, of course, to step in for the wonderful Jess Walton and the iconic character really started to hit me,” she confessed.

However, once she walked into the CBS studio, she was “flooded with memories” enough to forget the nerves and get to work.

Her history with the long-running show extends past the fact that it was her first professional acting job after college, she also met her husband on the ‘Y&R’ set. So it was truly a big moment for her to walk in and see a placard that “said ‘Jill,’ but it also said, ‘Welcome back, Lindsey Wells,’ which was amazing.”
