The Young And The Restless Spoilers: Malcolm’s Life Is Likely Saved – Cane Isn’t Playing Games With Lily

The Young and the Restless: Malcolm Winters (Shemar Moore)

The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Malcolm Winters (Shemar Moore) went to Los Angeles, California, to seek a solution to his potentially deadly health problem. But all along, the answer was living in Genoa City, Wisconsin, and his name was Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn).

Burying the lede was intentional. Kudos to Y&R’s writing staff for this creative storyline where Malcolm returns to town and learns he has a son, Holden Novak (Nathan Owens), and didn’t find a bone marrow match among his blood relatives.

Having Cane become the donor is a great idea because it nicely and logically resets Flynn’s character, rescuing him from indefinite bad guy status. Sure, it’s a soapy outcome. But it opens many plot variations, and that’s what’s important.

Malcolm Winters Must Live On

Moore was a beloved cast member during his initial stint on the show and the follow-up one that followed. A then-emerging actor, his performance as Neil Winters’ (Kristoff St. John) brother earned him a well-deserved 2000 Daytime Emmy Award.

He departed the cast approximately two decades ago and made a name for himself in the nighttime drama series Criminal Minds and SWAT. But fans recall that Moore would sporadically revive his daytime alter ego and memorably did so after St. John passed away in 2019.

The eulogy Malcolm offered for his brother in GC was an open blend of soap and real life as Moore and the entire cast grieved the loss of their friend. The prospect of having Malcolm die because he couldn’t defeat his aplastic anemia diagnosis seemed questionable, with Cane appearing to provide a positive answer.

Stephanie Simmons Makes The Right Calls

Vivica A. Fox (Stephanie Simmons) hadn’t been seen on Y&R since 1995. She debuted as Dr. Simmons in 1994 and was replaced in the cast by Angelle Brooks in 1996, which is the last year Stephanie was on the show until reappearing this year.

The Young and The Restless: Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn).

Simmons’ return has been delightful, and it would be great if she were at least a recurring cast member. Having Stephanie back in town was necessary because she needed to provide the paternity reveal and be the logical connection to Malcolm, having learned about his diagnosis.

Having Holden’s backstory fleshed out is important because Owens’ character’s place in the show was elevated once his friend, Damian Kane (Jermaine Rivers), was shot and killed at Cane’s ill-fated chateau gathering in the south of France last summer.

Lily Winters Is Falling Back In Love

Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) was right to distrust Cane. He left town in search of his father. But rather than keep current with Lily and their children, Cane withheld the double life he was living as Aristotle Dumas.

Cane’s place as the father of the twins cements him forever in Lily’s life. But his place in her heart faded badly.

Yet, his desire to get tested, which led to him being confirmed as Malcolm’s donor match, changes everything. Malcolm’s view of Cane is certain to shift, and with that, Lily’s heart will reopen. But Cane will need to continue to pursue honest paths in all other areas of life so that he can fully regain her trust and that of their children.
