Disclosure Day: Can It Live Up To The Massive UFO Hype?

Will Spielberg's new sci-fi epic actually reveal some truth, or is it just another high-octane Hollywood action flick?

There’s plenty of excitement about Steven Spielberg’s upcoming movie, Disclosure Day. It premieres in June this year, rather than at the Cannes festival. But are theorists getting too excited about it? Read on to find out why it might be a good movie, but fall short of expectations for UFO fans.

So Much Hype

Interestingly, the Spielberg Effect brings so much hype that he hardly has to say anything to promote the movie. It’s trending globally, and that could lie in the fact that more and more reports arrived of UFOs swanning around in the sky. Plus, there’s a push about humans who claim interaction with UFOs. And, it reached Congress, where various experts talk about their encounters.

Next up, what focuses the mind is the deep suspicion that Disclosure Day might actually be more like a fictionalized documentary. In other words, based on real things that happened. And, perhaps Spielberg has some insider information. However, judging by recent interviews by the cast, might people be hoping for too much?

Just ‘An Action Movie’?

Per Empire Online, Steven Spielberg put some of the hype into perspective this month. In fact, he emphasized that “It’s an action movie.” While he also talked about the “large scale” of it, he pointed to the emotional side of it. By now, you probably know that Emily Blunt has a hard time with what seems like alien possession.

Is that reality? Probably not, because he also mentioned that the movie is also about how folks “perceive each other,” thus reflecting the “divisiveness” between people. So, it probably highlights the importance “of empathy.”

Quite frankly, if that’s the message you want, you could just as easily find it in The Lion King.

A Kind Of Sequel?

More interviews point to expectations of something incredibly stunning about UFO reality being exposed, being unrealistic. When CBR wrote about it, they cited Blunt, who plays meteorologist Margaret Fairchild, as talking about how it ties into the old movie, Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

While it’s known as a fantastic movie from decades ago, is Disclosure Day just another sequel? Nobody’s suggesting it won’t be a fantastic action movie. But the question is, will those who desperately hope for real disclosure about aliens find any tangible answer to their questions?

Excitement & Fiction

Another member of the cast also seemed to tie it back to something fictional rather than an elaborate documentary-style film. Evoke cited the actor who plays the role of Colin Firth as saying, “It’s like old-school Spielberg. I think people will be excited.”

As it’s Spielberg, saying people will be excited is like a weather reporter telling you the sun’s shining when you just saw a blinding sunrise. However, these days, moviegoers might hope for more than tie-backs to old movies and fast-paced action. It seems that the thirst for real disclosure becomes deeper by the day.
