On multiple occasions, Victor looked Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) in the eye and promised her the top spot at Chancellor. He never intended for her to take over for Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson). Instead, he was using Lily for access, and when she delivered intel he could use, she was disposable.
However, Victor called Devon recently and told him to convince Lily to return to Winters. That truth arguably overrides what’s happened both in Victor’s eyes and, potentially, in soapy reality.

Abby Newman Abbott (Melissa Ordway) will soon have to adjust her last name again. It will soon be known whether she adds Winters to the moniker or adjusts it differently.
She and Devon are scheduled to be married next month. Victor is paying for the wedding but has yet to tell his daughter the details. So, she doesn’t even know the venue. That is outrageous and very Moustache.
Family considerations are important to Devon. Soon, the Newman family will be his own. Compromise is a deep consideration Devon must make because he doesn’t want to go astray of his soon-to-be father-in-law or upset his bride.

Lily has every right to be mad. She also hasn’t cooled since Victor refused to answer her questions about Chancellor’s top spot and Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) confirmed that they misled her.
Returning to Winters might eventually be Lily’s only option. But for the moment, she wants to take a breath and recalculate.
Jill Abbott (Jess Walton) appears to be nearing a decision. According to Victor, Jill will probably fire Billy. If that happens, Lily could be reinstalled at the top of Chancellor.
But Victor firmly believes that he’ll soon take Chancellor from Jill. In that scenario, Lily will either have to accept Nikki’s offer to work with her, pursue another career path, or accept Devon and Nate Hastings’ (Sean Dominic) suggestion that she return to their family’s business.

Devon’s adoptive parents are in heaven. His birth parents no longer reside in Genoa City, Wisconsin. So, he’s relied on his sister and cousin for support in recent years.
Abby will soon be a part of his family through marriage. Devon will fiercely defend her and, of course, their son. On that point, he and Victor agree.
James’ character is pragmatic. He knows picking a fight with Victor at this particular time is not wise. But he sent a message that Victor respects.
Here’s hoping Devon and Abby enjoy a wedding they will remember for all its many positive moments. But this is daytime, and that big event hints that turmoil is ahead leading into next month and possibly on the big day.
