Young and the Restless Spoilers: The Soap’s Spotlight On Mental Health Has Been Done Flawlessly

Young and the Restless

Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers indicate that the soap has taken a major stance on highlighting mental health issues, recently, and most fans can agree – from Chelsea Lawson’s (Melissa Claire Egan) struggle with depression to her son Conner Newman’s (Judah Mackey) recent obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) diagnosis.

Plus the spotlight on Ashley Abbott’s (Eileen Davidson) dissociative identity disorder (DID); mental health has taken center stage in Genoa City, and it’s been an incredible watch for fans.

Y&R Spoilers: Is It The Writing Or The Actors?

Y&R spoilers reveal these storylines have had fans on the edge of their seats. Is it the writers that deserve a pat on the back for these epic arcs that have viewers glued to their television screens or the actors, diving so deep into their characters? It’s a little of both.

Most Y&R audiences can agree that Eileen Davidson deserves a Daytime Emmy nod for her performances in this storyline, even though she’s no stranger to juggling multiple roles at the same time (she did this in a very different capacity on Days of Our Lives).

Still, watching Ashley transfer from one personality to the next, and how distinct “Ash” versus “Ms. Abbott” and Ashley (herself) is, has blown Y&R viewers away.

The Young And The Restless: Aunt Jordan (Colleen Zenk)

Then there are the real emotions that have been flowing between Chelsea, Adam, and Connor. From the parents themselves questioning if their own toxic behaviors triggered their son’s condition to watching Connor exhibit his OCD symptoms on the small screen has been incredible.

It’s been great to see all sides of this story, including Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson), Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope), and the Newman family’s help and support of the small blended family as they navigate the ins and outs of OCD diagnosis, treatment, and (at some point) the aftermath of living with the condition.

Y&R Spoilers: The Aunt Jordan Factor

On the other side of the coin, while watching Claire Grace (Hayley Erin) heal in a treatment facility for years of childhood trauma, it’s clear that Aunt Jordan (Colleen Zenk) is a psychopath and that there is something mentally wrong with her.

Yet, in typical soapy fashion, she’s simply the “villain” who should pay. Everything about Jordan and this storyline has been intriguing; especially how she’s able to slink her way out of every trap she’s been placed in.

Still, once finally “caught” (if she’s not killed), should the Y&R aim to look at why Jordan is the way she is?

Then again, why can’t the soap be “soapy” and just leave things as simply entertainment? Not everything has to “dive deep” into the land of daytime drama and raise awareness, right? Maybe a storyline can be just for the drama of it all!
