The Young And The Restless Spoilers: Is Devon Having A Nervous Breakdown?

The Young and The Restless: Devon Winters (Bryton James)

The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Devon Winters (Bryton James) was understandably upset when Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) kidnapped his and Abby Newman Winters’ (Melissa Ordway) son. But Abby got over it, and it appears that Devon hasn’t.

Devon is demonstrating what appears to be some symptoms of a breakdown.

That would be an intriguing storyline if that’s what the audience has been seeing play out in recent months.

James is a terrific actor who has been part of the cast since he was a child. Thirty years on Y&R make him a cast stalwart, with two Daytime Emmy Awards (2007 and 2020) on his resume. A third is a realistic possibility depending on how far the current tale goes.

Visiting Mariah Copeland Seemed Like A Good Step

Devon couldn’t push past his anger issues. His wife was able to come to terms with Mariah’s mental health issues and found compassion for the woman who served as a surrogate, which allowed Dominic Winters (Ethan Ray Clark) to be born.

However, he recently visited Mariah at the mental health facility where she’s been staying. The progress she’s made was evident, and the heartfelt comments she made to him seemed to have an impact.

So, Devon has shifted his anger toward someone else. Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) is back in Lily Winters’ (Christel Khalil) life, and Devon doesn’t like it one bit.

Cane Ashby Is The New Target

It feels like James’ character needs someone to serve as the depository where his rage is placed. Cane’s checkered track record makes him a natural punching bag.

What bothers Devon the most is that his sister, Lily, has fallen for what seems like obvious manipulations.

He gives Cane no credit for donating his bone marrow to Malcolm Winters (Shemar Moore).

According to Dr. Stephanie Simmons (Vivica A. Fox), Malcolm wasn’t facing imminent death. But she wanted him to have a bone marrow transplant as soon as possible to avoid a potentially fatal outcome down the daytime road.

Devon refuses to believe that Cane was selfless and has concluded that the donation was a pure ploy to win Lily back.

Devon Winters Shows No Signs Of A Turnaround

A generally sour demeanor is evident whenever James is on screen. That’s quite an accomplishment because his character is well-liked and is known for being a survivor.

However, devoted fans recall that Devon’s outlook on life was slanted negatively when James debuted in the 1990s.

That was because of the hard life he led, which included not knowing who his father was (later revealed as Tucker McCall, as last played by Trevor St. John), and his mother, Yolanda Harmony Hamilton (Chene Lawson), was an addict.

But Devon was rescued by Drucilla Winters (Victoria Rowell) and her husband, Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John).

Those two good souls are looking down on him from heaven, but he also needs his loved ones on earth to remain close because his mental state isn’t solid.
