Days Of Our Lives’ Eric Martsolf Talks Almost Being Cast As A Different Character
Days of Our Lives spoilers remind fans that Eric Martsolf has been playing Brady Black on the Peacock soap for close to two decades.
Entering the canvas in 2008, it’s hard to see him playing any other role in Salem; however, the actor recently revealed that he was almost set to play someone else in the little town.
Eric Martsolf’s Shocking Confession
Martsolf recently appeared on the YouTube podcast, Soapy, sitting down with hosts, fellow Days star Greg Rikaart (Leo Stark) and The Bold and the Beautiful’s Rebecca Budig (Dr. Taylor Hayes).
The actor talked about his time in the land of daytime drama, including playing Ethan Crane on Passions.
After the NBC soap was cancelled, Martsolf found some uncertainty in his career, being unemployed with two twin boys who were one, and a newly purchased house.
An opportunity came up for an audition on Days of Our Lives; however, it wasn’t for Brady Black.
At that point in time, the soap was looking for a leading man to serve as a romantic interest for Sami Brady, played by Alison Sweeney.
The part was Rafe Hernandez, and as fans know, that went to Galen Gering, Martsolf’s old Passions’ co-star, who played Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald on that show!
Martsolf told Soapy, “Now, if I knew the character was going to be Rafe Hernandez, I might have typed myself out of that.”
Plot Twist
Not getting the role was heartbreaking for Martsolf, but a mere two weeks later, he got a phone call from Marnie Saitta, Days of Our Lives casting director, who asked him to return to the studio, stat!
Martsolf reminded the woman he hadn’t snagged the role he auditioned for, which is when she offered some incredible news.
The soap wanted him for Brady Black, a character who at that time had been off-screen for three years.
As his wife was not in town, Martsolf brought his two twin boys to the studio.
Martsolf stated, “I dropped them off at her office, went and met with Gary Tomlin, and he said, ‘You’re Brady now. Here’s your backstory, welcome to the show.’”
… and the rest is history!
