The Boroughs drops on Netflix a month ahead of the release of Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day. Notably, it’s also about things unknown, mysterious, and unexplained. So, the new show should entice a lot of viewers. Read on to find out why you might want to put it on your must-watch list.

A ‘Stranger Things’ Angle

With the rising traction of things unexplained, what better to watch than something created by the same folks who brought us Stranger Things? The Duffer brothers seem to have done another great job. Only this time, their series focuses on older people. It’s set in the New Mexico desert, where even real-life mysteries unfold right now with missing scientists like General McCasland.

Anyway, what attracts those into dystopian and sci-fi movies seems to be an enticing plot.

Per the synopsis by Netflix:

In the sun-drenched expanse of the New Mexico desert lies The Boroughs, a picturesque retirement community promising its residents the time of their lives. But for new arrival Sam Cooper, paradise feels more like a prison. Everything changes when a terrifying nighttime encounter reveals that something monstrous is stalking the manicured cul-de-sacs.

Well, not everyone thinks that the newcomer’s a deluded old man. Notably though, they seem to be a bunch of “misfits.” The misfits include a former journalist, a spiritual seeker, a music manager, and a doctor.

Good Actors Help With Believability

The series of eight episodes brings some good actors as well, which always makes for more attention to movies about mysterious and supernatural things. That’s why Stephen King’s movies seem to do so well. In The Boroughs, folks will see actors Alfred Molina (Sam Cooper), Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Bill Pullman, Clarke Peters, and Denis O’Hare.

If you already watched Stranger Things and saw the first trailer for the show, then you’ll know that it’s almost as if they took the same mysterious theme and made everyone a lot older. You wouldn’t be wrong, as the news arrived that the storyline replaces kids on bikes with folks using “golf carts” to get around. Still, the producers managed to inject a lot of mixed elements of sci-fi, mystery, and horror all in one.

Viewers React

When the trailer dropped last week, plenty of people seemed interested in The Boroughs. One of them opined, “I love it when the main characters are older actors. I am seated!”
