The Young And The Restless Spoilers: Is The Show Already Fumbling Nick’s Addiction Plot? The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) is the opposite of his dad Victor Newman (Eric Braeden)—he’s measured and martyred.

He loves to ride his steed and rescue damsels but now he could be in the battle of his life if he needs to save himself from a deadly painkiller addiction.

Let’s break down the awful and sinister truth that Nick may not survive.

The Young and the Restless White Knight

The Newman’s are in crisis, having lost their empire. Normally Nick would be the voice of reason but he’s in terrible pain and unfortunately for him he has some leftover Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) fentanyl to devour.

He’s cranky and agitated and it’s about to get worse.

Nick Fighting Painkillers

Fans will see Sharon demand what Nick is hiding when he shoves the little pink baggie in his pocket. Instead of coming clean, Nick diverts the convo.
This plot echoes that of Nick’s mom, Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) who has battled alcoholism.

Nick Has the Newman Curse?

Nick had to be hospitalized due to his medical emergency and Sharon has the audacity to tell Nick to use aromatherapy to cure what ails him. Sorry, but while aromatherapy has its place we’re sure, it won’t help Nick now.

Even lovesick Noah Newman (Lucas Adams) recognizes that his dad is in the weeds.
Noah and Sharon are Concerned

The thing about Nick’s addiction is that the consequences will affect his family. Anyone who’s dealt with a loved one lost to addiction knows this.

Can the show depict this reality responsibly? How about realistically? This is the show that dabbled in DID with Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) and “brokenness” with Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes).

Both plots fell flat for an audience used to suspending reality and that says everything.

Here’s a free tip for TPTB: hire someone to inform you how not to insult the audience’s intelligence if you insist on presenting an addiction storyline. It’s not that hard.
