The Writers Guild of America (WGA) recently announced their nominations for 2026, and three out of the five soap operas on air right now scored nods in the category of daytime drama shows. As General Hospital and The Young and the Restless celebrate this milestone, the real story here is that Beyond the Gates has joined them in securing a nomination, just one year after debuting.
Beyond the Gates writing team includes Head Writer, Michele Van Jean, along with Co-Head Writer, Robert Goza Jr. It also includes former Days of Our Lives writer, Ron Carlivati, and Susan Dansby.
From shocking secret affairs revealed to love triangles, a spicy May-December romance, and so much more, BTG offers a nice mix of classic daytime drama dialogue, with a sprinkle of campiness, and some modern themes within their storylines.
The Writers Guild of America (WGA) isn’t just about ‘awards’ and ceremonies; it’s a labor union that represents the writers who carefully craft the stories that come alive on television. One major thing to note is that The Bold and the Beautiful, as well as Days of Our Lives, are absent from the list of nominees for daytime drama writing.
Still, Bold’s missing nod is a choice, not an effect.
There are times the CBS soap doesn’t choose to enter the WGA awards, and this year was the case, as well as the last two nomination cycles.
With that said, Days of Our Lives did enter the competition this year, and unfortunately, didn’t get a nomination. This is odd to say the least, considering the Peacock soap scored the WGA writing award in its category for four consecutive years, from 2021-2024.
This year marks WGA’s 78th annual award ceremony, which is slated to take place in both New York and Los Angeles on Sunday, March 8, 2026.
