Product Recall: Urgent Tomato Sauce Safety Alert

A new product recall is important for parents and singles, as it’s a commonly purchased item. Currently active, the FDA has put out a notice for certain brands of tomato sauce. Read on for all the details, as they could potentially make you and your family very ill.
The Latest Recall
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the USA issued a recall on November 3, and it involves three tomato sauces. This time it mostly concerns those folks in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Some of the products might be on the shelves in different retailers.
The first product recall is for First and Last Original Marinara Sauce, Tomato & Basil. Next up is First and Last Original Traditional Pasta Sauce, Meat Flavored. And the final one is First and Last Original Puttanesca Sauce, Mildly Hot & Spicy.

If you want to prepare a pasta dish with these sauces, please check your sauces and, especially, the “use by” date. Packed in 26-ounce jars, watch for September 2026 dates on the containers.
What Is Wrong With Them?
According to the information provided by the FDA, the entire product line, made by First and Last Bakery, LLC of Hartford, CT, was checked out by the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection. It was discovered that their tomato sauces were not compliant with regulations.
The product recall has gone out, although so far, nobody has ended up reporting falling ill. However, the potential is there for consumers to get “Botulism, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning.”
What Are The Symptoms Of Botulism?
The notice from the FDA explained that the symptoms of botulism can be caused when canning foodstuffs, especially those with “acidified or low-acid food.” Here’s what to watch for:
- general weakness,
- dizziness,
- double-vision,
- trouble with speaking or swallowing.
- Difficulty in breathing,
- weakness of other muscles,
- abdominal distension.
Obviously, you should see a medical professional if you or your family show any of those symptoms.
What To Do?
If you have any of those three sauces in your home with those “use by” dates, then you should return them to the place where you purchased them. You can ask for a refund.
Any other concerns can be directed to “the company at 860-956-5000, Monday through Friday, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm Eastern Standard Time.”
Other Recent Recalls
Other product recalls this year involved a brand of eggs from Texas, but by now, they should have all been removed or passed their “use by” date. Those were Kenz Henz eggs that came in cartons of 12 with expiry dates of October 11–14 and October 16–17.
Meanwhile, Walmart’s had a few scares lately. First, there was a batch of radioactive shrimp. Then, right at the end of September, they had to pull those Tru Fru strawberries. They were the ones in dark and white chocolate and the strawberries & crème kind.
