Princess Catherine Hits All The Right Notes On Addiction Awareness

Princess Catherine hit all the right notes about addiction and awareness. In fact, she wants everyone to get over pointing fingers at those who struggle with it, noting that addiction isn’t a failure, but a health problem.

A Complex Issue

Tatler reported that the Princess of Wales described addiction as “a complex mental health condition that should be met with empathy and support.” If you don’t know, Prince William’s wife is the patron of the Forward Trust. So, she was able to reveal the fear of stigma and the shame that addicts deal with.

Princess Catherine feels very strongly that society needs to change the way they think about people who battle their demons. Nicely, she asked that folks show more love, compassion and kindness when they find out that people battle an addiction.

Recovery Needs Support

Mostly, the princess said in her overall tone, that recovery is very possible, if only those around suffers reach out with strong support. Plus, she wants people to start talking more about addiction, instead of ignoring it, or shuffling it off into the closet.

“Please join the conversation,” the Princess asked. “By talking about it in the open, together we can bring addiction and the harm it causes out of the shadows.” She also referenced a poll showing over half of UK adults have a personal connection to the issue.

Taking Action

The request came as part of Princess Catherine’s ‘Taking Action on Addiction’ campaign which she started back in 2021. The objective is that nobody who struggles needs to feel alone.
