True Crime Suspect Jake Haro Claims He’s ‘The Fall Guy’

On Thursday night, Ashleigh Banfield, an award-winning journalist on News Nation’s Banfield, ran through the case and current developments. In her opinion, the story of Emmanuel and his parents, Jake and Rebecca Haro, just doesn’t add up.

In her opinion piece, Banfield reminded followers of the true crime case, that Jake and Rebecca Haro told police an unknown attacker kidnapped their 7-month-old son, Emmanuel, from a sporting goods store parking lot. However, the story wasn’t believed and a special investigation was started in California.

Since then, the Haro couple faces charges of murder and one of making a false report to the police. It’s been two weeks since the original report and so far, the child hasn’t been located. Meanwhile, new reports reveal that the baby might have been killed in early August.

Stories From The Parents

Despite the charges, both suspects continue to tell stories. Banfield noted that Rebecca gave a jailhouse interview professing their innocence and calling Jake “a good dad.” 

For a start, that directly contradicts a 2018 incident where Jake sent his then 10-week-old daughter to the hospital with “life-altering injuries.” She is now seven and unable to care for herself.

Jake also gave a jailhouse interview. He didn’t declare his own innocence but did say he was “completely co-operative with investigators” and claimed that “Rebecca is innocent. She loves her children.”

He also said the DA’s theory that Emmanuel suffered long-term abuse is “not true at all.” However, he offered no new information about where his son’s body might be.

The Death Of The Baby

Recently, a source told News Nation that after their arrest, Jake told police he “accidentally” rolled over on Emmanuel while sleeping, killing him. Banfield seemed skeptical, saying, “He inexplicably decided to just carry his son’s body [into] the desert off a highway.” Police cadaver dogs searched the area but found nothing.

Jake later told a “fake inmate” (an undercover officer or informant) that he was the one who killed his son and put the body “in a trash can.” The “jailhouse snitch” operation, called a “Perkins operation,” got Jake to talk.

According to Banfield, what he said “would complicate the search enormously.” The DA, however, said he has a “pretty strong idea” of where to look.

Jake The ‘Fall Guy’

Regarding his prior conviction for child cruelty, which permanently disabled his daughter, Jake told the reporter he pleaded guilty because he “didn’t have the money to go to trial.” He also claimed he was “railroaded” and that the judge knew he was innocent. Citing Jake, Banfield said, “I was the fall guy.”

Well, as far as the investigative journalist is concerned,  what Jake Haro said about the true crime case “might just be his biggest lie of all.”
