Brick (Stephen A. Smith) arranged for Sonny to see a cardiologist in LA, ensuring that his mob rivals wouldn’t catch wind of his health problems, He knew that any sign of weakness could put him and others in danger from his mobbed up enemies.

He had to keep things discreet, but he, Jason Morgan (Steve Burton), and Brick could only manage that for a limited time. Sonny’s heart issues stem from a gunshot wound to the chest he suffered years ago, and the doctor has advised that Sonny requires surgery within the next three months.
That deadline is approaching, but with Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) injured in the penthouse explosion, Sonny’s attention has been primarily on that.
