Trent Johnston Health Scare: Is Dementia Looming?

In the current season of 7 Little Johnstons on TLC, viewers started feeling sorry for grandfather, Trent Johnston because he’s been unwell and seems very worried about his brain shrinking. Naturally, fans fear that he might be on the verge of getting early dementia.  

Worries About Dementia

Trent is just 47 years old and he told Jonah and then the rest of the kids that he suffered from “dizzy” spells. In one scene on the TLC show, he also shared a scary detail from his doctor: his brain has shrunk to the size of someone in their 80s.

Obviously, viewers wonder what’s wrong. On social media, they ask if it could be early dementia. It’s a real fear, especially since brain shrinkage can tie into that. On Reddit this week, 7 Little Johnstons fan, u/Reality_titties95 mentioned that Trent talked about his injuries when he was younger. And, they discussed dementia.

Will he need to consider nursing assistance as Amber Johnston doesn’t seem like the most sympathetic person in the world?

TLC fans reacted in the comments section, and here are some of their thoughts:

• Like did he really fall and hit his head that many times? More than most rowdy boys or teens? He lived a pretty straight edge life and his father didn’t get [dementia] till his nineties which is normal.
• On Google it says he is only 48 years old, he’s even younger than I thought not even 50 yet. So if his brain really is that bad at this age, that doesn’t sound good.
• Every person is different. Trent could be slow progressing or quick, there is no way to know until things change, and…any day he could wake up and have a massive degradation in quality of life.
• 10 years before you show any signs of dementia, your brain is already shrinking with many different conditions. There’s over 100 conditions that can cause dementia, and it’s a lot more common than people realize.

Is Dementia Necessarily On The Cards?

 
Checking it out on good sources suggests that some of the symptoms that Trent Johnston has might not relate to dementia. The vertigo Trent’s dealing with doesn’t scream dementia on its own, per the Mayo Clinic.

In fact, the problems that Johnston experiences on the TLC show could related to something like multiple sclerosis. Or, it could related to the fact that he’s a little person. Do they even have accurate ways to test the size of the brains of people with dwarfism? So far, 7 Little Johnstons didn’t show Trent Johnston struggling with things like memory failure or confusion.
