Audrey Roloff Slammed For Sharing ‘Snake Oil’ Tips

Audrey Roloff, formerly on Little People, Big World (LPBW), gave some tips on treating infants with croup, and TLC fans fear someone might take it as medical advice. Although she placed a disclaimer, “i am not a medical doctor this is not medical advice,” at the bottom, critics worry that people might try her remedy or even misdiagnose their baby.

Critics Worry About Infant Safety 

TLC fans understand that lots of people use homeopathic treatments. In fact, not far from where the Little People, Big World alum lives in Oregon, there are professional naturopathic physicians trained in homeopathy. So, some TV fans think that the mom of four kids should stay quiet as she’s not trained or licensed. 

The Oregon Board of Naturopathic Medicne exists to “regulate  naturopathic medicine to ensure the protection of the public.” Naturally, LPBW fans fear someone could end up sick or even worse if young parents follow the protocols shared by Audrey. Most fears expressed by people on Reddit arise because of Audrey sharing treatment for little children with “croup.”

The Tips Involved Giving Kids Plant Extracts

We are not going to duplicate the treatment that Audrey Roloff claimed works for her. In her Instagram post about it, she assured her followers, “I’ve shared this protocol with so many friends over the years who had never used homeopathy before and then became believers in it after because of how well it works.”

LPBW viewers wonder why Audrey would pass on tips to cure kids when there are perfectly good doctors and trained naturopathic doctors in the vicinity. So, critics called out Jeremy Roloff’s wife for dispensing advice on “snake oil.” And, one critic opined:

ER nurse here… The cold air thing can work if it’s the beginning stages of croup… the snake oil stuff, however, stupid.

What If Something Goes Wrong?

While the disclaimer at the bottom of the post seems responsible, it is sufficient? Even sites like UW Medicine carry disclaimers telling folks to seek their information from a licensed physician. Actually, Audrey Roloff said nothing about that. 

In the discussion on Reddit, an EMT wrote, “As a paramedic for 20+ years, for f–ks sake take your child to the ER, don’t mess with their respiratory drive with holistic meds. Croup and epiglottitis are often mistaken for each other, and kids can get worse or die if you are wrong. Once the antibiotics and breathing treatments kick in, you can add all this weird sh-t to their water. These people are scary.”
