Reed is the offspring of Victoria and J.T. Hellstrom (played by Thad Luckinbill), and Tristan has taken on the role since Reed was a teenager; he is Victoria’s second child.

His early storylines focused on the rocky relationship between his parents, and the custody fight over him. After J.T. gained custody, Reed spent a significant portion of his childhood away from Genoa City, which created a rift between him and Victoria.

He made a return to the show as a teenager in 2017, but Reed faced challenges in connecting with Victoria and finding his place within the Newman family.

Music emerged as a pivotal element of his character, as he pursued his passion for songwriting and performing, allowing him to carve out an identity beyond the family turmoil.

Reed found himself entangled in some of the more troubling events in Genoa City- he struggled deeply when he learned about J.T.’s abusive behavior towards Victoria.

This shocking truth culminated in what seemed to be J.T.’s death, leaving Reed grappling with the conflicting memories of his father and the man who had caused his mother pain. Although J.T. was not truly gone, Reed was convinced he was.

In late 2018, Reed’s journey took a dramatic turn when he accidentally struck Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) with his car during a storm. Consumed by guilt, he admitted to the incident but ultimately decided to leave Genoa City to pursue a music program.

The Newman family holiday is here once again, but this time, another member is absent from the festivities—Reed.

He missed Thanksgiving, skipped his Aunt Abby Newman-Abbott-Winters’ (Melissa Ordway) wedding, and didn’t get the chance to meet his newly discovered sister, Claire Newman (Hayley Erin). It’s been quite a while since Reed last graced Genoa City, with his last appearance dating back to March 2020.

Since then, he has largely been absent from the storyline, with only sporadic mentions keeping his name alive. Fans are left wondering about his future, as there are currently no confirmed plans for his return; there have certainly been moments when his presence would have been fitting.
