The Bold and The Beautiful spoilers and updates reveal Sean Kanan has made a name for himself through his performances on The Bold and the Beautiful, the Cobra Kai series, and General Hospital.
Recently, he candidly discussed his path to sobriety, revealing the pivotal moments that led him to make this significant change in his life and the support that aided him throughout the process.
Kanan is widely recognized for his portrayal of the villainous Mike Barnes in The Karate Kid Part III, a character he brought back to life in the series Cobra Kai.
Beyond this iconic role, he has made a significant mark in the world of soap operas. In 1993, he became part of the General Hospital family as A. J. Quartermaine, a character he portrayed until 2014.
In 2000, he took on the role of Deacon Sharpe in The Bold and the Beautiful, and he also made appearances as this character on The Young and the Restless.
Recently, Kanan shared insights into his personal journey with People, particularly focusing on his commitment to sobriety, a choice he embraced five years ago.
The actor disclosed that his wife Michele, whom he wed in 2012, was the driving force behind his decision; he recounted how her heartfelt plea struck him “like a lightning bolt.” He recalled her saying, “I have invested my heart and soul into this relationship-please tell me I didn’t choose the wrong path.” Kanan confessed that maintaining sobriety had been a long-standing battle for him.
He reflected, “I had been attempting to get sober for quite some time, experiencing brief successes followed by significant setbacks. But when I heard her words, it felt as if the clouds had cleared.”
The idea of potentially losing Michele was a significant motivator for Sean to pursue lasting change in his life. He expressed, “I think there are two powerful forces in the universe that drive deep and enduring transformation in people: fear and love- I felt the influence of both.” Kanan added, “I was terrified of losing the person I cherished most, which was Michele.”
He acknowledged, “That fear was the key factor that finally pushed me to get my act together.” Michele also shared her thoughts with the publication, clarifying her request was not an “ultimatum;” rather, she aimed to provide Sean with a “safe space” for introspection and personal growth.
Michele expressed her feelings by saying, “I told him, ‘This is our life together. It can either be filled with pain as I watch you struggle, which is heartbreaking for me because I love you, or we can face this together.
You’re hurting yourself for reasons I can’t understand, and that pain is affecting me too; the choice is yours.’” She emphasized that being a partner means embracing both the highs and lows; Sean acknowledged that Michele “was in it for the long haul.
She realized this wouldn’t be resolved overnight, but with the right support and encouragement, I would eventually come around.”
