The short answer to the above question is that Carter can’t. But he did because ambition blinded him, driven by his suddenly expressed and returned feelings for Hope.
Ridge and Steffy Forrester Finnegan (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) can’t allow their COO and assumed stalwart friend and business associate to defy their authority. They’ll also fight the man who serves as FC’s legal counsel.
One would assume that Carter will have his contract terminated. The question will then become, what happens with his relationship with Hope?

Eric Forrester (John McCook) respects Carter and considers him family. However, the co-founder of FC recently told Ridge that he disagrees with Carter’s plan to transform the fashion house into a luxury brand destination.
Since Eric disagreed with Carter’s idea, he wouldn’t endorse his duplicity. Eric is the true head of the iconic fashion house. Ridge and Steffy are his chosen co-heads who run the day-to-day business.
Eric will likely be upset by Carter’s attempt to seize power and force FC into embracing his plans for its future. That point in the plot should be great soap, as the personal feelings of all involved will be raw.

Carter’s life has involved work and involvement with the Forresters. In recent years, he’s also made various attempts to find love, get married, and have children.
To date, Carter’s personal life efforts have yet to develop. He’s bounced from one relationship to the next because a true love match is elusive, with many on the other side of the screen surely empathizing.
Claiming to have recognized Hope’s supposed wonderfulness two summers ago in Italy feels like a plot stretch. Her response to Carter’s recently expressed emotions is believable because she’s single, and he has been a good guy.
Hopefully, the audience needs to watch a storyline that includes Saint-Victor’s eventual exit. But one has to wonder what will be left for Carter if he gets fired and then depends on Hope for stability when her life represents the opposite.
