Suga knows he’s broken the law and he’s being demure about it. Unkike some other stars I dare not name, you won’t find the K-pop star making excuses or trying to dodge the fact that what he did was wrong.
The authorities have decided to fine Suga without trial weeks after his license was suspended for driving an electric scooter while under the influence of alcohol. Reports say that at the time of his arrest, his blood alcohol content level was at 0.227.
Per the report by South Korea’s Yonhap news agency, the 31-year-old was “summarily indicted” for the Aug. 6 incident by the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors Office. Happily for the singer, it has been determined that he won’t be required to go to trial.
According to the Road Traffic Act, driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content level of .2 or higher is a punishable offence, with the defaulter facing between two and five years in prison, or a fine ranging from 10 million won to 20 million won ($7,439.59 to $14,879.18 in the United States).
Suga was found lying on the floor after falling off his scooter by a police officer, who proceeded to use a breathalyzer after suspecting that he was drunk. The breathalyzer revealed his blood alcohol content to be 0.227 percent, above the legal limit of 0.08 percent.
The singer was then booked at the Yongsan Police Station for violating the traffic laws. He was released only after he had answered a few questions.
A day after the incident, the star issued an apology to fans, saying, “I am sorry and (feel) very heavy hearted to come to you like this, after disappointing you.” “At last [night’s] dinner, after drinking, I went home on an electric scooter,” he continued. “Because I had been drinking, I did not realize that using an electric scooter after drinking was against the law, and violated the road traffic laws.”
He then described the incident, claiming that he fell in front of his home as he tried to park the scooter, before an officer in the area spotted him.
“There were no other persons or establishments damaged during that time, but it is my responsibility to bow my head and apologize (to you) with no excuses. I’d like to apologize for my negligence and wrong behavior to all those who my actions have hurt, and will be careful with my actions to make sure that things like this do not happen again.”
Suga later released a second statement, saying, “I would like to apologize to you again with an embarrassed heart. I deeply apologize for disappointing and hurting my fans and everyone who loves me with my wrongdoings. I forgot my sense of responsibility to repay the love I have received with my actions and made a big mistake.”
