Young and the Restless Spoilers: Summer’s Childhood Trauma Affecting View On Claire – Mental Health Breakdown Coming?

The Young And The Restless: Summer Newman (Allison Lanier)

Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers note that Summer Newman (Allison Lanier) is bent on keeping Claire Grace (Hayley Erin) away from her stepson Harrison Abbott (Redding Munsell). She fears he won’t be able to get over his kidnapping trauma with her new cousin around, and she seems all around jittery over Claire and doesn’t trust her.

While some Y&R fans think that Summer is going to the extreme, is it past childhood trauma that has her so triggered? Could she be headed for a mental health breakdown?

Y&R Spoilers: Summer Newman’s Childhood Incident

Y&R spoilers remind fans that Summer had a very traumatic incident from her childhood. For viewers that recall psychopath Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk) purposely exposed Summer to peanuts, knowing she had an allergy; knowing that it could hurt or kill her. Summer had a major medical emergency because of Patty and had to re-learn talking, reading, writing, among other things.

Could Summer’s trauma over her encounter with Patty be the root of her outrage when it comes to Claire?

Y&R Spoilers: Summer Newman’s Mental Health Meltdown

Y&R is focusing a lot on mental health as of late, with stories that are spotlighting dissociative identity disorder (DID) and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), as well as overall trauma.

Is Summer’s reaction to Claire, and Ms. Newman’s “need” to keep tabs on Harrison a reaction to her own childhood trauma that was never addressed? Could she be “freaking out” because she doesn’t know any other way to cope with her emotions?

Many viewers have pointed out that Summer is overreacting, and that Harrison isn’t even her biological son, so she has zero “rights” to him. Still, it’s undeniable that the two have formed a bond, and her need to control the situation might be the only way she knows how to handle her feelings.

During a recent episode, she made it clear to Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) that every time she sees Claire, it’s a reminder of Harrison’s kidnapping.

She questioned if Kyle cared about the trauma she was dealing with. This could be the writers’ way of foreshadowing a future mental health breakdown, but how will this present itself? Will she suffer from chronic anxiety? Depression? Another mental health condition?

Kyle is pushing back on Summer’s request to shut Claire out, so could this cause a mental health spiral for Ms. Newman? Comment below! Catch your favorite soap on CBS each day and visit SOS often for the best Young and the Restless spoilers and news.
